I paid $300 for it in 1976. They want $27K for this one. It's worth every penny.

One of my bucket list cars, I'm sure I've mentioned it many times before, is a specific 1966 Corvair Corsa, Yenko Stinger serial number YS-102. My auto shop teacher bought he car new in February of 1967. He blow up the stage II Yenko motor and decided to put a Z/28 302 crate engine in the back seat.
I saw the car every day in the nice weather with the air cooled flat 6. I saw it transformed into a V8 beast in auto shop class and everyday he drove it to school after that until graduation. I have the name of the person who bought it from my teacher. He has since passed away and his one son was the last registered owner as far as I know. These photos are from 1971. The car looks dull but it was really a very nice glossy dark maroon. I'm not sure why he replaced the Yenko rear deck lid with a standard lid. I think it look better with the Yenko lid.

Then I'd add a roof rack for surfboards/kayaks for beach trips. (Actually that's the first thing I'd have replaced with disk brakes. Then we'd take care of the "knock" in the top end by replacing it with an LS)

Get a used 981 cayman, S or GTS pending your budget. Way cheaper than the 4.0 and sounds better too.

S are 45k+ and GTS are 60k+ for about 10 year old car. I do think if budget is concern then get 981 but if one can swing and also get then new GTS is better value for money as depreciation is non existent.

Slightly used GTS (2-10k miles) are selling for more $$ than new... perhaps as a result of crazy ADM charges. Worse, the available ones were ordered with silly options... $$ for embroidered crests and extra decals? Call me old school, but a used car should cost less than new!
So I reached out to a few dealers in SoCal... asked about Cayman GTS 4.0 allocations. They all laughed and hung up when I said bubba won't pay ADM. Yesterday one called me... said he had one coming that I could change to *MY* specs for MSRP, but I had 2 minutes to decide!!! So I did... might end up hating the car and its tall gearing, but doubt I will lose money on it. So will see how it compares to my BRZ when it gets here in a few months. (Assuming they don't cancel, change their mind, blow up, etc.) |

Congrats. You will love it no doubt. My base 14 cayman with soul long tube headers, PSE, a tune and X73 suspension is a perfect weekend mountain car, it’s a forever car.
