Just purchased frs and need to tone down the exhaust
Hey everyone just had the fortune of purchasing an frs
Love the car it has tein coil overs Volk Ray's wheels Injun intake Full exaust .... And its rebadged with toyota gt86 badges Yes I bought it like this I did build my Tc back when I had it pick included and built my truck full topend and lsr cam on a 6.0 holden l76 block Enough about that I love the car but! The the exaust is so insanely loud I almost have to ildel if their is a cop anywhere in sight. I wouldn't have thought straight pipes would have been as loud as this . I have yet to get under the car to see for sure what all is their as far as front or mid pipes or brand of uel header is on their . From what I can tell it has hooker black heart uel header and I know for sure it has the invida n1 ss cat back on it So my question is does any one have any suggestions on what mid or front ? Pipe I can throw in their to tone it back a notch or 3 ... lol any way thanks everyone Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Throw a stock catback on it and see how that works for you. Can usually get them dirt cheap (I can't get rid of mine for free) so not a huge investment for a first crack at it.

I would ditch the N1 as they're notoriously loud and drone a lot. A Invidia Q300 is a quiet alternative to the stock catback. You can find people practically giving away stock cat backs via local 86 facebook groups.
The stock front pipe has a cat inside of it, That plays a big part in quieting the car down if you have a catless header. |

I'm about 99.99 % positive it is catless based on exaust smell ...lol but I havent been under it yet to see .
I'd like to stay away from stock components when it comes to exaust but that did cross my mind . I'll look at the q300 thanks guys. Planning on pulling the motor at some point to address a few oil leaks and will prolly build it a bit while I have it out ..... This is my commuter for work driving 110 miles a day . It is actually cheaper to buy this pay full coverage for it and fule it with 93 than it is to just drive my truck to work.... although it is kinda a built motor in the truck gotta run 89 or better Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Double check it's current setup but my recommendation from having multiple exhaust setups is this- I would recommend a catted front pipe as well, dynos show you really don't gain anything from going fully catless, so keep the uncatted header but quiet down the rest and keep the Subaru burble. At least then you can throw a catted and resonated front pipe on from something like nameless and get a nice 93 tune when you get it fixed up, as you know all the o2 sensors are in the header, so being catless behind that won't do much for power, a hi flo cat should be sufficient in the front pipe and you can ditch the cat in the header and keep or get a catless UEL You also get better fuel economy with the 93 tune then without it so it'll help with your 100+ mile drive and with the catted fp and q300 you cut down on drone. I drive 30-40 miles to work and in that "shorter" distance having the front pipe there made all the difference and cut down on the smell, especially when running e85 and cold starting it and keeping neighbors calmer

I am catless with a UEL, stock catback due to the neighbors and you can't tell it's not stock unless you're smelling my exhaust. |

The CSG Touring86 exhaust is popular with track people who have replaced the rest of the system and desire or require output levels under 90dB. It also sounds better than the stock catback.

Like others are saying, stock catback. If the header has been changed and all cats deleted that will be the best improvement.
The N1 is a disgustingly loud exhaust, and you wouldn't likely even notice a performance difference with the swap. Also, it fits well and is cheap. It will still have a decent volume, but it will be tolerable and sound ok. If you really want to spend some money there is Magnaflow, Corsa, CSG touring, TRD.... lots of options, just get a suitcase style with a resonator over the split cannon types. Sounds like you're used to having something loud, just not as obnoxious as an uncorked twin. |

Not sure how close you are to Chattanooga but I have a stock cat back exhaust I'd love to get out of my garage! Will be near Talledega, AL this weekend too if you're interested and around that part of the world. It's yours for $50!

If I were getting a new catback look at r400 or mxp SP or Perrin 2.5 resonated would be my picks. I would try to source a stock FP. Very little loss in power but you would gain a cat and resonator. This will help with volume and smell. Paired with the CBs above should sound very nice and tame.
