Flexing Throttle Pedal
Not sure if this is the right subforum, but is there a fix for the throttle pedal's side to side play? I can feel the pedal move from side to side and when I had a pedal spacer, the pedal would move/slip to the side of the raised pedal stopper. I've placed grip tape on the pedal stopper and the back side of the throttle pedal. Didn't help much.

Welcome to sports cars on a budget It's normal. Shouldn't be, but it is. Buy a BMW - bottom mounted pedals don't do this.

Pull that sucker out and inspect it. Two screws and a connector.

Well, the pedal on my 2013 FR-S sure doesn't do that -
I agree, something is wrong with the pedal on your car. humfrz |

taller pedal stopper... OEM pedal stopper... Taller pedal stopper installed. You can see the notch on the bottom of the pedal. On the video the car is loaded on the left, and with the throttle pinned, the pedal has enough play that the notch/pedal slips to the left of the stopper. That was kinda scary. Almost moved enough to get caught behind the brake pedal.
I wonder if @VerusEric has any insight.

I went out to my car and hooked up a load gauge to see how much lateral load it would take to move the pedal roughly this much (guessing from the video posted above). It requires roughly 25 lbs laterally... the way I personally drive I do not believe I push on the pedal laterally more than a few pounds. The movement is in the throttle pedal assembly itself... I don't see how there is much that can be done to strengthen this as the movement appears to be internal but I will review it a bit more later today. Thanks, Eric |

Wow, I think there is something wrong with your pedal.
I have the Verus pedal spacer, and the pedal never slip out of the pedal stopper. There is some side to side play (not caused by the verus spacer). Probably because the pedal assembly is made of plastic. But you seem to have a lot more play than me. |

I'll buy a new pedal assembly and test. I don't think my pedals are any different or worse, but I'm going to check other FRS/BRZ pedals in my region. If this is the complete set up with assembly, it's cheap enough just to test. |

Take apart the assembly before buying a new one. There’s a little white tap that “locks” the pedal in the correct orientation. Try to see if that’s not destroyed.

Yes I autocross and some HDPE. But I don't have the spacer set to the closest to the brake. That won't increase the play in itself, but I can see how that may put the pedal to the edge of the stopper, and so easier to slide off. But I watched your video, and my pedal doesn't move as much, but there is some play. Maybe with age (and aggressive pedal input), the assembly slowly wear and the play increase (my car is only 2 years old). |
