Toyota or Subaru Dealer for Service

A little background: Back in the day when I used to put 25-30,000 miles/year on my car, I would buy engine oil and filters by the case and do the changes myself but still brought it to a shop to have other maintenance performed. Not putting anywhere near that mileage on my cars these days, been having my dealer do all the maintenance, which I've been very satisfied with.

At this point, I'm leaning towards an 86 and if given the fact that either dealer has a reputable service department, is there any issue/benefit having an 86 serviced at a Subaru dealer rather than the Toyota dealership?

people say that the oem toyota motor oil filters are trash compared to the black genuine subaru ones,
also, a lot of people blames the toyota dealerships for blowing up the motors with the vavle recall bc the yota techs werent familiar working on boxers

Been wondering who would say this!

Half those techs probably worked for Subaru before. Half the Subaru ones probably worked for Toyota. This is a ludicrous statement (I know you said "others" made it). Techs don't learn one make of engine only. How do private garages manage to work on more than one make of car? How do people with zero training or experience work on their own cars?

This whole concept is just...

I go to Toyota for service for convenience. It's all subjective

In a case like this with a shared platform. I would just choose whichever dealership seems of better quality to you and does better work on your car. Obviously that would take a little experimentation between the two, but both SHOULD do equivalently good work on your car.

LOL Yes!
The day I walked into the dealership and saw that these cars even existed I owned one 45 minutes later.
I understand caution but

No obstacles, time frame allows me to wait until Gen2 hits the showrooms. Liked what I experienced when I test drove the 2020, so excited to see the 2022 in the flesh before placing order.

Option 3. My car only goes to the dealer for warranty related work. I have a trusted independent garage that does all other work on my cars, in and out of warranty.

I don't know of any Subaru dealers allowing an 86 to be serviced through them. Repair orders need to be sent to Subaru of America, techs need to record the VIN the worked on and vice versa, during business hours.

If a Subaru Service Department is taking in 86's for service, then they're doing it under the table.

Do Subaru dealers not work on used cars they sell?
