With the hacksaw I can clip off the hood hook and weld it back on I'm thinking, though not sure that is the best idea, either, frankly.

Can you get access to the bolts that hold the latch to the radiator support?
If you can unbolt it you can open the hood to work on unhooking it from the hood. The loop on the hood unbolts, but is not removable; it’s sandwiched between the layers of the hood.

Wow, I've been watching this thread for the past few days. It's ashame that someone would have to hack up their hood and do all that damage to the radiator support just to try to get it open in the event of a cable break. What do you think could have caused this problem in the first place? Corrosion?

Here's my advice: get a can of WD-40 or your favorite penetrant and using the straw, spray all inside the area underneath into and all around the locking mechanism, then wait a few hours for it to soak in, then go inside and try to pull on the cable using some vise-grip pliers with a helper gently but firmly pushing down and/or pulling up on the hood.

I just looked at the latch system on my FRS. As @pope suggested. if you can get to them, removing the 3 bolts from the radiator bracket is your best bet. I don't see any way to work a wire hook into the latch.

Update: I fkn did it!

I managed to remove the intake from underneath and get better access to the latch. Made a makeshift hook with a wire hanger and slid it into the latch lever to pull it open.

Want to thank everyone for their help!!
