@wbradley, thanks! ‘AnalogMan’ is simply a reflection of my old-school tastes and personality in general, preferring basic, elemental, simple things to unnecessarily complex. Such as manual transmissions, roll-up windows, rotary dial phones (until they stopped working on VOIP), and yes, analog audio over ‘digital’.

For many years I had a very old school audio system. Marantz vacuum tube amp, Vienna Acoustics speakers. I absolutely loved it. But, the combination of hearing loss over the years, and my wife not being a fan of my drilling holes in floors to run Monster speaker cables the diameter of my thumb, I got rid of it and now listen to music over the internet on Sonos (yes, I know, blasphemy). I wish it wasn’t so, but at my age, my ears can no longer really tell the difference.

I still have an extensive collection of vacuum tube radios. All in perfect working order. I’ll never give them up.

I read an interesting blurb the other day using the math of economics and applying to the virus problem. Everyone thinks they'll hit the jackpot when they gamble. The reality is rather different. Also things about best approaches to masking, vaccination, and ultimately actually to best economic outcome. The experts are on the right track. Get vaccinated. Wear your mask.

AnalogMan, in the audio hobby world vacuum tubes are definitely the thing. And Marantz vintage stuff is more valuable then ever. I introduce tube sound quality to my system via a Schiit tube preamp fed to a solid state amp.

I'm a big fan of Tidal Masters which I stream through an extremely well performing external DAC, (Topping D90). It's like having everything at your fingertips and one of the biggest enjoyments I derive from the web.
Around 2017 I started collecting vinyl records and have since become a bit of an afficionado. Last year it stopped, but I bought around 800 records in around 3 years, mostly in excellent shape.

The one caveat, some audiophiles believe one can never spend too much on audio equipment. It's one of the most snake oil plagued hobbies there is. I'm educated enough to agree with electrical engineers that a lot of fancy cables and accessories are sold based on mythology, sometimes for huge money. Just check out Audiogon.

Santa Clara County health department has said people can start making reservations for April 16 or later even if not currently eligible, but none of the places here, myturn, or even the Santa Clara county scheduling site allow it lol.

Also i just spent the last ten mins and checked all the major pharmacies in the area and none of them have any availability.

I bet shit’s going to be real fun starting April 16 when everyone will be eligible...

So, you're in to Schiit audio? My sone gave me one of their DACs along with one of their headphone amps. Pure digital, but I am quite happy with it. I'd love to go back and play with tubes, but between 50 years of motorcycles and shooting, a graph on my hearing acuity is depressing. High quality audio equipment is wasted on me.

That said, in years past I too came to the conclusion that a substantial number of the gear obsessions that floated through the hobby were based on mythology and often theology.

Ahh, Schiit. I run an upgraded Bifrost + Asgard 2 at my desk. Was surprised I consistently heard a notable improvement with the Bifrost vs a Topping D10. Haven't tried it against any of the more recent AKA dacs. Not really in a place to be burning money being curious.

Keep hoping I can just stream wirelessly once the vaccine vectored microchip is in place fully... Headphones can be a pain sometimes...

indiana has opened up an official drive-through center for the next 6 weeks, ANYONE over 16 can just show up, no appointment needed. a lot of illinois, some michigan, ohio, wisconsin, and minnesota residents coming down for it.

said they're averaging about 2k people a day.

my dad said the chicago mayor just said they're going to reduce the requirements down to anyone over 16 as well, but anyone in the city needs to go elsewhere because they don't have enough...

I have had a Schiit Gungnir as well as a Gungnir Multibit DAC in the past. The preamp that I'm using, a Schiit Freya, represents excellent value in it's segment, as do virtually all Schiit products.

Also amusing is in the manual they advise you not to waste money on magic lotion potion aftermarket power cords, which is the biggest scam in the industry IMHO, as well as magical "tuning" fuses.

My son wrote me a couple years ago to tell me he was, "getting you a couple of pieces of Schiit for father's day." He was very amused with himself.

They are well below the threshold you guys have crossed, but are far better than I have ever listened to on headphones.

India is still having relatively low numbers proportional to their population, and some of their numbers are under-reported like deaths, as discussed before, so it is to be expected, but this article popped up:

I’m so tired of wearing masks. I went to the store earlier and was annoyed with my glasses fogging up and my mouth area feeling sweaty from warm breath.

Was at the produce area and almost pulled it down as the misters sprayed the veggies.

Can’t wait till we no longer need to worry about not wearing one anymore.

They can apparently turn genes on and off now without needing to alter the strand. Crazy the leaps and bounds we are making. (In physics as well the new moun discrovery and anticipated new particles is crazyness too)

I feel like this may spark an already kind of volatile thread but here it goes. Mrs Mafia got her vaccine yesterday, J&J. She's already a person that deals with anxiety and OCD, so imagine her reaction when next to her, on the waiting area (15 mins) post-vaccine, a girl she described as her own age, 25, slim-build, starts having a seizure. I could not hear the end of it the rest of the day....
