Trunk swap
Hello, I'm new here, this is my first post. I was not sure where to post this, so I decided to post it here in the General Forum.
I live in Norway, and I have a white 2019 Toyota GT86 (ZN6). I have the low OEM wing on my car, similar to the one on this blue car. However, I want to swap to the trunk with the big wing that came with the first generation GT86 (Aero Kit) here in Norway (Europe), similar to this red car. I've spoken with my local Toyota dealer, and I can order the trunk with the wing from them. When I asked if the first gen trunk is similar to the second gen trunk (and if it will fit my car), they said that the trunks had different part id-numbers, but that could be due to different placed holes for the two different wings. I've asked around for advice, and everyone tells me that it will fit my car. However, I want to be 100% sure before I order, so I wonder if anyone in here can give me some information. Both pictures are taken from Google. Thanks in advance. Best regards, Mathias |

you have a facelifted model, not a "2nd gen" so yes they are the same. IIRC the only notable thing that changed regarding the trunk from pre to post facelift are the struts that hold them..
but my question is why don't ya just get the wing and swap it onto your existing trunk? You're not going to end up with any exposed holes from the removal of your GT86 wing.. |

Thank you for quick replying, HKz.
If I order only the wing, I will need to drill new holes in my trunk. I don't want to do that job, and neither do I trust my local dealer to do the job properly. I live in a salty environment close to the Atlantic Ocean, so if they're doing a poor job, i might end up with a trunk that is rusting with time... So i thought it was better to order a pre drilled trunk from factory. Besides, then I also have 2 options, and I can swap the trunk to whatever style I prefer later |

Are you sure that none of the holes will be exposed with just a wing swap? The low wing has a mount on the middle of the trunk, right above the Toyota badge.

The facelift wing has a rubber bumper in the middle. It's only attached to the wing, not the trunk lid. Below are the changes that where made to the trunk lid for the facelift (2017) model year. Notice there is no center hole in the 2017 trunk lid.

Facelift models have 3 holes per side, they will probably covered by the Aero Spec wing, I don't know if the 2 back holes are the same, but probably yes.
The facelift wing touches the trunk in the middle too, and there is an ugly punching in the middle of the trunk that will remain exposed (plus a transparent sheet to be removed). Gas damper are harder in facelift models, they will fit Aero Spec wing, perhaps they could be too hard. |
