Honestly that's the least of the issues with that photo lol.

Found this on twitter. Out of the two I think the 86 will have the more attracted front bumper.

When has that not been the case?

Personally, I like the facelift on the 1st gen BRZ better than the 86.

Waited most the day to reply fully. But here is my worthless .02

First off, I’m very happy this car was made at all, the fact they still build these types of cars for us should be commended, especially with a manual transmission.

As you may know from my previous posts, I sold my Camaro SS to get either a current gen or the new gen if I waited.

What I like:
1) Still under 2900 lbs.
2) Chassis improvements
3) New motor, with a lesser torque dip
4) Improved track mode

What I dislike:
1) the front bumper (headlights look fine, not a fan of the front bumper personally.
2) The side skirts/rocker panels. I feel a cleaner aftermarket design would fit the cleaner lines of the rest of the vehicle.

In short, overall it’s a “good enough” design, but if I had a 2017-20 86/BRZ I’d be happy with what I have and wait.
Stock for stock I feel the 1st Gen is a far cleaner design. No question.

With that said this is by no means a “bad” looking car, but would take more work to look “clean” to me than the current models.

This will be my 3rd car, so I’m going to wait to see the Toyota version, and DRIVE them both before I decide.

Chassis improvements etc sound great on paper, but until I actually drive the car I’m not sold as I expected to be.

I’m going to wait it out for another year until I can experience the car first hand.

Again, very happy with what I see on paper, but to me the styling on the first gen is a far cleaner design stock.

Opinions are a good thing, can’t please everyone but can’t get mad at people for stating their honest opinion.

What I really want to see is how effective those rocker panels are at reducing lift at the rear and/or drag on the rear wheels. They seem pretty pronounced, so it's plausible they have some measurable effect.

Very possible. Good point. Again I’m going to be patient and wait to drive.

I was initially super excited and for sure was going to buy, but I want to feel the car instead of looking at specs.

My friend Christina has a 2018 brz with PP and I love driving that car.
Their are two Hakone editions locally and one brand new 2020 magnetite Gray PP brz locally which part of me wants to jump on, but until I drive the new car I won’t know for sure.

Anyone who has a current gen should remain happy, hopefully many parts will be compatible with the current car.

Not super happy, but not disappointed either. It is what it is

Good points. Both cars are great and I am kinda glad they left it NA. Sounds like transmission is carry over. If I were to do it over I would not boost and save the money and go for a TS model and focus only cooling, suspension, and just a flex fuel kit and tune. Everything else I would leave stock

I completely get where you are coming from. Something like a Hakone edition 86 or BRZ with the Performance Pack are very tempting. A BRZ tS would be the top of my list for a current gen car.
BUT, I think waiting for the 2nd gen is the smartest move. There are some significant improvements. It’s riding on a modified new Subaru global platform, it’s much more rigid, the engine has more torque, and the interior is nicer. You can address a few of those things through the aftermarket on a 1st gen, but not all of it.
I freaking love my car, it’s a blast. So I’m expecting the 2nd gen to take everything I love about my car and ramp it up a little. Not earth shattering, but improvements through the entire car.

You know, I just thought of something stupid (but could work) as I took a look at the pictures on this thread. One of the odd things about the shape of the new BRZ bumper, is the cutoff line for the grille. If you "cut" that off and replace it with another grille piece theoretically, or even do something as simple as paint it black, it could give the bumper an improved look. Maybe not, but I'd say it's not bad.

Here is a very shitty 10 second render in paint that shows what I mean.
I can imagine this car will look pretty good in black, as many cars often do.
