Is it that much of a shock that some people don't like him?

If all goes to plan, I'm going to Suzuka next season.

No, that's not what I meant. I don't like him either. It was just my response to an unexpected sentence given the last few pages....

The grandstands were incredibly expensive so I had general admission tickets, but you could sit right at the top of Eau Rogue, had two giant monitors, loads of shade obviously, and surprisingly a good view of the track. Could see the start line as well as the last few corners because of the elevation. As long as you showed up early enough of course.

Yup that's pretty much what I was getting at, it'd be risky but it could happen. At least he'd finish a race.

(omg I've been watching F1 for 10 years now dam)

So that leaves replacing Alonso at Mclaren, which might be a bigger gamble than a midfield team... Especially if they do land at Renault as a customer which puts him back in exactly the same spot for reliability.

He'll ride RBR trying his best to impress until Ferrari or Merc or whoever gets a hot streak comes knocking or RBR kicks him to the curb and he fishes for a midfield. Which is exactly what Ricciardo will do. RBR is their best shot at not only impressing a more stable team but also at winning a championship at all.

I can't see Max getting a Ferrari seat to be honest. They have always been happier with a clear 1 and 2 driver combo. I think Leclerc is more likely to replace Kimi. Out of the RBR guys, Dan makes more sense to get a drive at Ferrari. He's a more reliable package and absolute gold in regards to PR. F1 is a business after all. Having an Italian background wouldn't hurt his chances either. The only road block I can see there is that Vettel wouldn't be too happy with that deal. Dan spanked him last time the two were together.

Max is seriously quick in qually but he's still yet to prove himself, and I think has a bit of maturing to do before I can see him driving for Ferrari.

It doesn't look like much of a silly season is going to happen this year anyway. The big three at the front have all confirmed there drivers and even Alonso has just done a bizarre U-turn, and praised McLaren, has said he believes they can win a championship, and has hinted that he'd be interested in signing a multi year contract. Wtf?

I think you're spot on with your Ferrari predictions, Leclerc to replace Kimi, after a year or two driving for Sauber or Haas starting next year (he could flounder as so many have with the lack of test time nowadays), then see how long the Vettel train lasts and what the landscape looks like in X years.

Edit: guess it's Sauber for Leclerc as Haas has decided to keep Magnussen next year, shame, Leclerc probably would have been a safe bet and a Ferrari discount would probably be welcome.

Alonso is in a similar position to the other 5+ drivers who are capable of taking a top tier car and putting up a championship winning drive, there's nowhere better to go to than where they are right now, fighting for scraps in the midfield. It makes sense to stick with Mclaren rather than gamble on Renault or Haas or something, maybe in his twilight years he'll follow the same path as Barrichello and Massa but he's a few years away from that.

Yeah if he's got no chance of a seat at one of the top 3 teams, there's no point moving. If Honda do actually get their sh*t together and work out their engines, McLaren would have a solid chassis, and have an engine supplier who doesn't have their interests in their own team. Mclaren with Merc engine again would never have the latest and greatest, Merc would keep that for themselves. Renault I don't see happening. I believe Horner said they are at capacity as it is in terms of how many engines they can supply.

Sticking with McLaren may well be his best hope at another championship in the next few years.

I look for Alonso to go to Indy Cars next year. Its been really disappointing with Honda power. Honda used to be at the top, don't know why they can't get their act together.

That would have to be nearly 30 years ago now. It's a hell of a lot trickier these days.

McLaren are partly to blame for the first couple of years. They insisted Honda go with the size zero concept. Once they realised that idea was limited they've now finally got a more conventional layout.

Fingers crossed they do get the car sorted. It's a shame to see both McLaren and Alo not fighting for podiums.

Damn this rain! It's no fun imo when they have to race in the wet. Doesn't really show the true driver's skill on the track.

It's when it's wet that you can see true driver skill, because it's when it's wet that the driver is limited by grip not how good the engine is.

Did anyone watch Quali?
Woke up at 2am to watch live and stayed up for the red flag.

Glad I didn't go back to sleep. It was well worth being tired at work today.
