This sounds amazing but why aren't big companies developing it?
Did you purchase this electric unit? what is the price?
I'm excited about this but skeptical.

I'd like to see electric superchargers fitted to hybrids. You could use a smaller, more fuel efficient engine with the SC augmenting power only as needed and the battery power necessary is already there. Normally the problem with electric SC's is that the weight of the batteries needed offset most of the gains.

Street cars are limited to a 12 volt electric system and as many manufacturers have found out, that greatly limits ideas like this. BMW proposed moving to a 48 volt system for just this reason, but as far as I know, they were shot down.

Clearly hybrids have found a work around to the rule or are exempt so I'm not sure why a loop hole hasn't been found to allow a setup like this.

the reason most big companies arent doing it is the way the kit is supposed to work. it's part time power, people will put nos or just fork out for a real turbo kit. I'm not bashing this kit at all i think it's awesome btw and definitely wanna see more of this. I'm sure it'll work for it's intended purpose.

If the VR6 Golf they did is any indication we should see at least 30whp up top with 50 to 60tq down low. The VR6 was also on the smaller compressor.

We will probably end up tuning it for safety more than anything else. All the maf is seeing is extra air, if the resolution of the maf is high enough things should be okay. Now the timing may be out at the higher maf levels at which point a tune can bring those down.

If the car isnt happy with the higher load and air coming in it has compensations built in but you dont want to always rely on compensations.

All the cars they have done up to now have not been tuned.

Hybrids have high voltage circuits for the get-moving bits and 12V for the rest. That's essentially what you have to do if you want to use significant amounts of electrical power for anything, because even 48V doesn't cut it at all. What would see a huge improvement if they went to 36V or whatever is alternator efficiency, but if you need DC-DC converters and stuff to not fry switches and relays you might as well go all the way. Well, that's not exactly true, I think you can design an alternator that sees those efficiency gains without working off higher voltage with some trickery (someone on ecomodder did this), but it makes more sense these days to just have a full mild hybrid system in place if you're the manufacturer.

By the time mild-hybrids are ubiquitous (shouldn't be more than a few years), every car will have a nice >100V circuit to work with

you could always add your own array of lipo packs or something for a higher voltage setup. lipo packs have a bad habit of incinerating themselves and everything around them, though.

if you don't mind me asking what is your background in regards to aftermarket accessory development? are you a vendor?

Im a FRS owner in the area were these systems are being tested. I have always been interested in systems such as these and know that i want something cost effective and easy to install. This seems to hit on all those points nicely.

I will be testing the companies product and letting you all know how it works. If it works well I believe they will be interested in selling them however this is simply an engineering trial now.
