I hate it when parts I need are out of stock... Finally decided on a grimmspeed license plate mount for the FRS but it's not in stock anywhere. (I need a front plate holder to be legal if all goes well this coming Friday)
And everything else with adjustability looks like cheap garbage/knockoffs. I suppose I could look for one... ... ... Used |

Last month I ordered a box grater so I can finally grate some cheese, and the one I got happened to come with this nice storage container thing in case you want to refrigerate the shredded cheese you don't use. Not necessary, but handy. But within a week part of the container broke, so I contacted the company to see if they would do a warranty claim on it.
Everything was confirmed, email said the right item would be sent out to me. Today I got the package and it had a new spatula inside, and the invoice slip said nothing about a box grater/container and only mentioned the spatula. Well, been wanting a new spatula so I'll take it, lol.

The next younger generation of kids are incredibly irritating. The stuff they obsess over is ridiculous. They fake having strong feelings about things, but it's just so they can look "hype" on their social media. It's really surprising, especially because I'm in the generation born in the beginning of the 90's, so I'm sort of on the precipice of the current generation. I.e. I grew up with jump drives, floppy disks, cassette tapes but at the same time I finished my youth with the beginnings of social media, Youtube, etc. Weird dichotomy.

Mostly because I am not afraid to make mistakes, sometimes you have no choice but to try. I just got an email about not making PO's the other day from accounting, I messed up one tiny little thing. But I needed a PO and the purchasing manager was out so I did 4 of them myself. Forgot to add a ship line on one of them which is still a zero dollar amount because it is collect on our freight account. My email back was a verbal head nod, even though I will continue to make them myself if I need one.

I have had some experience supervising people that were younger that me, both military and civilian. I found that the "art" of successfully commanding older and more experienced non-commissioned and warrant officers in the Army was to always treat them with respect. Just because they had to salute me first and call me "sir", didn't mean that I was ANY better that they were. The "trick" was to do this while at the same time showing them that I was always in command. Just because I was the company commander (at age 25) of 183 infantrymen, and was sometimes referred to as "the old man", didn't mean that I was any better than any one of them. We were all important to accomplish the mission. As a civilian supervisor and manager, I found the same strategy was successful. For example, when I was a field research manager, one of my tasks was to work with the technical field representatives (which were in a separate chain of command) to obtain new registrations for pesticides. Now, these old boys (average age of about 45) had been involved with weed and insect control measures, for many years. I was 24 years old and never experienced the stomach pains caused by methyl parathion poisoning. Back when they got things "approved" to put on a pesticide label, all they had to do was to scribble their thoughts on the back of an envelop and send it the registrations manager which would have the USDA rubber stamp approval. When I started it was a new ball game. The EPA was established and the FIFRA (Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act) was made a law. Now my challenge was to be able to convince these "good ol boys" that they had to business differently (like generate data) in order to retain and expand label uses, so the company could continue to sell the pesticide products to make money so we could get paid. So, first off, I would acknowledge their field experience and importance of their gut feelings created by their observations. Then I would lead them through the process of translating their experience and observations into raw data that would be acceptable to the EPA. That's all for now, folks - |

4th of july has always rang a little hollow for me.
growing up, the neighbor next to my parents was a vietnam vet. the war was hard on him. he hated 4th of july, said it brought back too many bad memories of good people dying. he was the kind of guy that spent every moment he could out in the yard, with the exception of the 3-4 weeks around 4th of july, where he'd all but vanish into his house to chase away his demons. i always thought it was a little ironic that we as a nation feel the best way to pay respects for those that maintain our freedom is to trigger their PTSD...
