Insurance rates move around, some of it is due to changes with data but mostly I think it's because they can get more money out of you.

fwiw Geico was always the most expensive option whenever I shopped for insurance.

Insurance loyalty is pointless these days. I usually shop around every 1-2 years or so and always save $200-$400.

THIS!

I also shop my insurance for ALL my needs every 6-12 months. I'm 50 plus yrs old and EVERY stinking year ... They raise my auto rates regardless of my perfect driving record for the last 20 yrs or so.

I love their excuse. It's not YOU. It's all the OTHER drivers.

Must be those damn BRZ owners, not us good drivers in the FR-S.

My monthly fee with Geico in Philly went down $10 a month recently. Hmph. Guess I'm lucky.

I still drive my Cherokee that I drove off the lot new in June, 2000.

My dad has had his Corvette for 30 years. My parents also have a 1999 Yukon they bought new and still drive to the lake every weekend.

When you find something you like, sometimes you just have to stick with it.

Oh I wasn't criticizing. I was just amazed. Even cars I love would not last that long up here (well they will but it will cost more than they are worth).

lol and I've kept my 25 year old pickup for 5 years now and I would be surprised if it wasn't still on the road 5 years from now.

I assume to make up for it cars up there depreciate steeply so the used market has lower prices than down here where a 50 year old car can still be in great condition without any significant effort.

I drove a 58 Chevy for 4 years in the mid eighties and a 58 Ford for 3 years in the early 2000s. Both were year round DDs back when I only had to drive a few blocks to work. Mind you they also were both in horrible condition when I got them and took a pile of work before I drove them. Both are still on the road today (albeit as weekend toys) and I get to visit them every once in a while.

Insurance companies are increasingly using your credit score / rating and other data analysis to determine your rates. There was a recent Consumer Reports article about this.

Ins Renewal

tzhu07 ,

I just got my 6 mos renewal from AllState for my 2015 FRS. The collision portion of the policy went DOWN $2 for 6 months ($82 to $80). I also have no claims, live in SC and am 72 years old. For what its worth, I'll trade you insurance policies for your age and you take mine!

I'm with Geico, and I pay more than that. In their defense, however, I ran over two nuns, three homeless orphans, and some poor bastid in a wheelchair. Two separate incidents, so that only averages out to three "participants" per event. Is that so bad?

Besides, the wheelchair guy was in the crosswalk when my light turned green, so it's his fault.

Sometimes life ain't fair.
