I am not sure if it makes a difference but I am only looking at upper two hundreds for whp and mabe 250 or so for wtq.
It's not the power number that mandates this, but the turbo setup itself.

Go look in the engine bay of any modern turbo car, and you'll see that what I've listed is exactly how they're done from the factory. The 86, being NA from the factory, doesnt' have what a turbo needs done.

Even then, the factory inlet is ducted, and the factory header is heat shielded, and the factory tune (minus early 13's), quite good.

OEMs will never do something that costs them more money if they don't need to, so if it's done, it's being done because they feel the cost is justified.

Just curious Mike, this side of the Atlantic, in the UK / EU ( while we are still there) Turbo set ups are much cheaper than SC kits and more popular too. While on your side , there is a lot more use of Supercharger kits.
Is there a specific reason for it?

AVO is our go to for a bottom mounted turbo and Tuning developments do a top mounted one. Drive in, drive out for 4750 £

https://www.tuningdevelopments.uk/pr...pcg6kea8cqven4

While a Harrop drive in, drive out will cost 6K£ without supporting mods.

legalities

Also, the cost of "making it run" for the street and the cost of "making it run like an OEM setup" are two very, very different things. The supercharger setups are universally much closer to an OEM grade setup than any turbo kit on the market for the FA20.

Hello. I hope this reply finds you well. I noticed that your post is a bit dated, but I wanted to chime in and offer some advice. I would recommend doing some research and talking to other BRZ owners who have gone through a similar process. Make sure you understand all the potential risks and costs involved, and don't forget about the supporting mods like oil cooler, catchcan, and clutch. Best of luck with your decision! And if you ever need to transport your vehicle, there are plenty of options available for door to door vehicle transport. Anyway, keep us updated on your purchase.
