Mid Engined Hyundai Veloster Spied?

Last May (2014) Hyundai surprised every one on their home turf at the Busan Motor Show with a wild midship Veloster CONCEPT:

http://jalopnik.com/holy-crap-this-i...dai-1583197040

Now (2015) Leftlanenews is claiming it has amateur spy shots of a TEST MULE taken in South Korea suggesting that Hyundai is working on a mid-engined version of the Veloster coupe.

"Details are vague at best, but the mid-engined prototype shown in the pictures borrows numerous styling cues from the Veloster Midship concept that was shown last year at the Busan Motor Show. Fitted with only two doors, it features flared fenders all around, large air vents in front of the rear wheels and a full body kit that includes a deep front bumper and a large air diffuser out back.
What the hot-rodded Veloster is powered by is a mystery. The concept shown in Busan nearly a year ago used a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mill that generated 295 horsepower, nearly 100 more than the top-spec Veloster Turbo"

Going mid engine could also suggest a change to the driven wheels as it would be much easier for them to do RWD/AWD with that engine placement. The hot hatch wars are certainly starting to heat up.

I'd bet money this will be the Korean equivalent to the Ford SHOgun. (Ford SHO V6 mid mounted and RWD in a Festiva.) They built it, it was neat, never intended for production.

If this comes out and undercuts the FRS/BRZ... bye bye twins!

From the articles "The Midship is a concept only to explore possibilities for the Veloster chassis and is currently not related to any future production model."

In the end, I love mid-engine cars, but it still looks like a Veloster so it would be a no go for me.

Didn't Hyundai/Kia "shock" everyone with the GT4 Stinger concept too? A concept is only a concept until it is no longer a concept.

The autoblog article I linked to is completely factual. Hyundai did show a midhip veloster concept at the Busan Auto Show. It's the leftlanenews article that claims to have new spy shots of a test mule that's questionable.

From the article: "This new front-wheel drive flagship sedan will offer quiet and sophisticated driving comfort, while adopting a series of advanced convenience features."

Mid Engine but FWD? Either I read the article incorrectly or Hyundai is really really f-ing stupid.

The press release is about two different cars. The first part is about the midship veloster concept the second is about the new FWD sedan.

The paragraph just above the one you quoted says:

"Also receiving its global reveal at the show is the all-new 'AG' large sedan that underlines Hyundai's position as a manufacturer of premium, distinctively-styled vehicles. Displaying an elegant yet simple exterior, 'AG' continues the modern interpretation of Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, with a distinctive long nose, and a refined character-line that runs the length of the wheelbase."

FYI: the autoblog article is from 2014 and was included as context so that people would know what car the new 2015 leftlanenews article is "claiming" to have test mule spy shots of

Don't feel too bad @xuimod I thought the exact same thing when I read it, then read it again and caught the two different car nuance.

Cool looking concept. Enough with the teasing though. Either Hyundai needs to make this, or Kia needs to make the GT4 Stinger concept.

It looks like fun. Hopefully it has more steering feel than the current Veloster. I can't imagine what the price would be if all the panels really are CFRP as it suggests.
