Gas station or Fr-S issue?

I went to 76 and usually every time i fill up i let the pump sit there probably because of this issue so last night I thought fuck it I’m probably just overthinking and being cheap trying to hold as much pump as possible so I let it flow like normal but then I go in the car and my gas gauge doesn’t even move at all? I looked at the gas and it showed me everything according to the screen was working properly.

So my concerns are

1. Do gas stations lie when it shows the tank is filling up from the screen?

2. Is the gas in my car and the FR-S is acting retarded?

My concerns are

1. Did you hear gas moving?

2. Were you changed for any fuel dispensed into your vehicle?

3. Did you drive your car away from the gas station with the fuel light on low and eventually run out of fuel?

Some pumps display the PREVIOUSLY DISPENSED metering until your card is authorized (or your pre-pay activated) when you change your grade selection. It's entirely possible that what it displayed was the previous vehicle's dispensed quantity and fuel charge, and you did absolutely nothing.

Gas pumps are highly regulated and monitored so it is very unlikely that it's meter is off either on purpose or by accident.

The 86 does have a bit of history of not reading the level properly from time to tme though.

It wasn’t the previously dispensed cause I only filled up $10 and I recall just making a big deal out of it cause I saw some guy walking from the darkness of the suite hotel next to the gas station it was at night too I just knew if this cheap ass shit of not holding the pump doesn’t work for the first time ever trying it I was going to lose my shit and of course it didn’t work. I’m assuming letting it flow like water gives me a irresponsive gauge. Sheesh. That irritated tf out of me cause just what are the odds of this kind of logic.

Not really sure what you are saying now. You usually put the handle lock on but this time you held the lever yourself? Both will give the same amount of gas so there is no savings nor "being cheap" using one method or the other.

Usually i hear a light sound but when i just give it a start/push i let go let it hold till i just hear it build up for a good few seconds then push the gas in the car probably for the reason of the gauge not getting stuck and then I just decided to let the pump do its thing and low and behold the gauge is stuck again

(in my state at least...) There is a government stamp on each pump that shows the last time it was inspected/certified. Which, IIRC, happens once a year. I bet the other states have a similar pump certification.

I could’ve sworn it was either on the side i pumped gas on that said it was out of order a month ago or the other side either way its a flunky 76 station sitting on top of a rich hilltop area

I legitimately can't figure out what is being asked here, this is maybe the most confused I've ever been reading a thread lol

Pumps are very closely regulated, it's extremely unlikely that any sort of scam is going down. Using the handle lock is no different from holding the lever down with your hand, it's a purely mechanical device that simply keeps the handle in the squeezed position. The fuel cuts off due to some mechanism in the nozzle or the evap system in the car I believe? It has nothing to do with whether or not you're holding the handle or using the lock.

Are you confused because your fuel gauge isn't updating in real time? Fuel gauges don't usually reflect added fuel until the car starts up, if you left it running it might need to be turned off and back on to show the current amount.

Ive been driving it last night back home and this morning to work it is like I paid $10 for nothing. I am going to see if it goes on E though cause I legit had a good filled to a quarter 1/4 of a tank fill it up with $10 and it is still at 1/4...

Do you have a way to keep track of the exact miles you've actually driven since filling up? I know on my old Focus the gauge moves way faster in one half of its range than the other.
