Naw, it isn't the HP...the folks that constantly cry about power are missing the torque...too many people are used to FI or bigger displacement engines with much more low end torque and get appalled that they have to rev an engine out to get the power in a sports car

I'll be pedantic for a second here, it's still the HP.
(HP/RPM) x 5252= Torque

You press down on the accelerator, the car either goes really fast or it doesn't - that is the mindset most people have. The car is special when you understand the design philosophy of it - if you do not, then you will not have appreciation for it. It's really that simple.

What? Yeah they do. 300 HP in a normal "sporty" car is nothing.

That's not it either. A lot of modern V8's need to be revved out for max performance. You do get MORE of it across the powerband though.

Isn't a linear powerband preferred by literally everyone? Of course people aren't appalled by needing to run to redline to get %100 out of an engine. I don't think getting %100 out of the FA20 has ever been a debate.

It's not preferred by all people, specifically the stock turbo WRX/STI crowd. They revel in the turbo surge that kicks in by 3,500 RPM and nose dives after 6.
For HPDE, I certainly value a linear powerband. For fun I think I want my mid range to spike and just keep hauling

I really hope they either had a poor/insufficient tires or you're kidding. They're really fine at those levels provided you have proper accompanying mods but like any car, they can get a dicey when you get up into the absurd power figures.

Daily driven cars, so the suspension was soft, I think that was more of a limiting factor than the tires when it came to putting power down. Tires were 225 max perf summers IIRC, so not crazy when it comes to ultimate grip.

We were in college so once the turbo was on other mods were very much on the cheap.

Who am I kidding the turbo was as cheap as possible too 🤣

Isn't this a naturally aspirated turbo?

A year from now we'll be reading a lot of the same comments in this thread about the A90.
