It is with great sadness that I share the news that the NorCal86 and 86DRIVE community has suffered a painful loss. Matthew Maniti (Matt), a senior attending Foothill High School in Pleasanton, CA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 30, 2015. Matt was the son of our friend Arnold Maniti, a NorCal86 member and frequent participant at our monthly Dublin Meets. Matt had very recently acquired the car of his dreams, a Subaru “bugeye” WRX and had started coming out with his father to our monthly meets. Many of us were there last month as Matt proudly showed off his beautiful car and then joined some of us for a fun late-night dinner. His passing comes as a sudden shock to us all.

Matt’s funeral and burial services have already occurred last week, but we would like to use the next upcoming Dublin Meet this Friday as another opportunity to celebrate and remember Matt’s life and one of his passions which was cars and driving. We invite everyone to come out and gather as a car club and community, doing what we and Matt enjoyed doing — simply hanging out, sharing laughs and checking out cool cars.

Friday, Sep. 11

Dublin Toyota, 4321 Toyota Drive, Dublin, CA
7:00PM – 9:00PM

Come hang out and meet the local automotive enthusiast owners. All cars welcome. Happens once a month, 2nd Friday of every month. Hope to see you there.

Everyone is welcome. Please behave responsibly, no burnouts, excessive revving, etc.

Memorial Donations
We will take donations for Matt’s family at the Dublin Meet. But if you are not able to make it out there and would like to make a donation:

Donations for the family or to a scholarship fund may be made to the Matthew Maniti Fund. Checks should be made payable to Foothill Athletic Boosters and either mailed or dropped off at Fremont Bank, 6654 Koll Center Parkway, in Pleasanton. Checks may also be mailed to the Matthew Maniti Fund, c/o Foothill Athletic Boosters, 2843 Hopyard Road, #204, Pleasanton, CA 94588. For more information about donations, please contact Brenda McFarlane at brendamcfarlane@att.net.

I got here early, but in my daily driver. Didn't hear about the meet until a few hours ago and didn't have time to go home and bring Smurfette! Looking forward to meeting everyone and their cars!
