Finally got certification (required to drive on road in NZ). Which was a drawn out process.

Failed on noise and emissions (as well as other things) but got it there eventually. Had to add cats and another muffler. Has toned down the sound quite a bit. Sort of in two minds whether I like it or not. Don't really have a lot of choice, has to be what it is.

Another thing I fixed is the oil surging. Last drift day if I chucked it too hard it would surge. I had a oil pressure sensor which would cut power and save the motor, but it was still frustrating. With the new sump it seems to have solved the issue.

Have been tracking car for past few months, and power has gotten old. So have ordered a new built 1uz.

Ordered from Hartley Engines in NZ. Their top spec 1uz setup delivers 480 to 490hp (on an engine dyno) at 7800rpm, with a 8400rpm red line, which is what I've ordered.

This video is of a similar motor on their dyno, but with a carb and 10:1 compression. I'll be running injection and 11:1

Wow, that's awesome. What sort of cost is a built 1UZ?

Decided to step up to a sequential box. Should do a good job of keeping the new motor on song.

Are you considering a higher final drive. It looks like you'll never need to go past 3rd gear when WOT for the 5 speed and 2nd gear for the sequential box. I understand most of the time is spent part throttle, but it seems these ratios (with your final drive) are fairly tall.

edit: D'oh. Didn't see km/h.

Hi!

Hello sir.... So I really wanted a v8 swap gt86 for a while and I came across your build. I bought a slight front end damaged gt86 with no engine in it and about to purchase a vvti 1uz. I was wondering if you would be willing to help me out with with some planning and more info on what you did for your swap. I want so badly to follow in your footsteps!

Car has been almost fully rebuilt over past 12 months.
Decided to dry sump motor. Meant it could be mounted better, lower and further back.
Twin plate clutch, new cooling system, ducting and vents, new fuel system, bigger brakes, new suspension bits, more tyre; all to cope with more power. New intake manifold is glorious compared to the OEM one.

Has cage and seat now; though most the interior is still there. Is still 100% street legal.

Power is up almost 50% now. Makes peak power at redline (8500). Could maybe push to 9000 but not just yet.

Hi,

I am in the midst of a very similar build and will and have been referencing the work done on your car sir Manji. I am very thankful that there is even some support and history of this build. I am still a long way from the goal in terms of work, but I am driven and my 13' BRZ has no engine so double that. I am installing a 1992 1UZ-FE pre-vvti from a Lexus SC400.

Thank you, wish me luck!

-A

Probably being a bit risky, seeing as the car isn't certified/engineered yet, so its not at all road legal. Even if I got pulled up and wasn't speeding they'd throw their toys, prob make me tow it home not drive it.

Around the cities they have zero tolerance. But down here they're a bit more lax.

Just using a bit of common sense you can avoid most of the drama. They're out to get idiots in shit cars, that need big straights to get upto speed. So they wait there for them. They don't tend to patrol twisty sections as most cars can't get upto speed. That's what I tell myself anyway.
People don't realize how lucky we are in the US. Do you still have your license? I went to New Zealand on my honeymoon and I came home to 3 speeding tickets from rental company, all speed cameras and I was only going like 5 KPH over the limit! This was in a slow diesel X5, imagine how many tickets I would of had in a quick car. I was just in Canada and it's reckless driving for anything over 100 KPH.

On the upside there is no way in 1000 years you could get approval to drive a MoTeC car in Califorina, so big kudos to you my friend and enjoy those twisty roads your build is epic!

What company did you go with for the dry sump system? I'm doing a LT4 swap, and bought a unit from Dailey Engineering. Any pics of the drysump installed? Where is your oil tank placement?
