I heel-toe downshift through the gears as it keeps me in practice for the track, and also it's not a bad practice to ensure you're in the right gear for your speed at all times. Keeping the clutch pedal mashed the whole time while braking, is just, eeewwwww.... I mean, at *least* leave it in gear with clutch engaged and put off de-clutching until revs are down to 1500 or so! Had to go an hour south for my covid shot. Counted to 100 shifts, and checked the odometer-happened at 10.1 miles coincidentally.
The first 8 miles was the typical city driving that the cars always driven in- about 90 shifts in that, and then the last 2 miles opened up, and accounted for the last 10 shifts. So my average is about 10 shifts per mile driven...

I bought this car specifically for it's engagement. If I wanted to simplify things, I'd get a cvt nissan. Be sure to check your coolant level. I believe I had an issue running under 2k rpm in 2nd or above causing floating heads and coolant loss due to lugging the motor.. I run every gear at around 3k rpm minimum and never had a problem since.

Cruising around at 2500-3000 rpm you pretty much slow down fast enough under braking that you'd be in engine lug territory if you just went down a single gear at a time. |

the White Flight is really bad here, and the fastest route took me straight through the center of it. nothing like farm roads to support 10x's the population...

Haha 100% agreed. De-clutching and braking until you stop is just wrong especially since you can drop to idle RPM while braking and your car will actually burn gas to keep the engine turning.

Like the dudes that rip all the way from 1st>2nd>top of 3rd only to just drop the car in neutral while traveling at excessive speeds... they want to die I guess.

But why the hell do you need to clutch-in to brake? Even if you are not planning to downshift just brake in a gear and put in neutral before stopping. And all your attempt to save clutch will lead to failed TOD and you will have to change clutch since you are already there. |
