Yeah, I've never liked the concept of using a metal tubing with a highly pressurized gas as an electrical grounding point

Mine lasted 2 years and was weak within the first year of purchase. Perhaps the Panasonics dont like heat? I took the car to the track within the first month in +110 ambient temps.

Like @RZNT4R said, all lead acid batteries don't deal well with heat. My battery used a lot of water the first few years. It's probably time for me to check it again.

110F ambient temps is hot! I've tracked mine plenty of times in humid 90-95F temps and my OEM Panasonic lasted 8 years.

The last time I started on the Panasonic battery it was so low (but had enough juice to turn over), the starter turned over once and then the whole car paused for 2 seconds and then compression started at like 1 rpm.

Wow.. So you're still on the original. I'm sure our cars ave similar build dates. Sprayed white by the same robots and most importantly the same batch of batteries.

Haha my paint robot must have been having a bad day based on the color mismatch between panels.

Yeah I replaced my OEM battery about a month ago. 8 yrs is the longest I've had any factory battery last on any of my cars, but it was starting to struggle especially on e85 cold starts.

I'm surprised this battery can last more than 3 years. Any special maintenance beside topping the acid?

I made sure my Panasonic was completely dead before I replaced it.. cause i had no choice but to lol

Our robot was not good at matching bumper to quarter panel paint..

I actually never really messed with the battery until it came time to replace it, other than hook it to a tender when I wasn't going to be using it for more than a couple of weeks.

Yeah the bumper color match is horrible. Looks like a poor aftermarket job.

I used to run Optimas, and could get 6-7 years out of one in SE Texas heat. Would have never considered a Walmart battery, regardless of warranty. If you're remote back country, or your wife/family is counting on that battery to start the vehicle in a parking lot, the warranty ain't gonna get anybody home. Last October, the Wifes' 2015 4Runner oem battery finally succumbed to the Texas heat and short duration trips. It had been several years since I had bought a new battery, so I let my inner "research nerd" out and looked at Optima 1st. Didn't like what I found, so I start reading battery threads on forums like Yotatec and BITOG, and Excide comes up as the last battery company with US production and recycling, and they are one of the best availble in the US retail auto market. Turns out Walmart sells a quality Excide, rebranded. I can't recall the label, but it was the top of their in house range, $150 for the 4Runner. Walmart sells a range from different makers. The cheap ones likely fail 2-3 times more frequently than a battery that could be expected to live ~6 years plus in my environment. IIRC, a serial # starting with "E" or "EP" denotes an Excide product. I'm no expert, but if you want max battery life, it could't hurt to deep charge it with a good charger evry 6-12 months, depending on your application. The 4Runner isn't here ATM, but I think this is the battery I bought (will verify later): https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart...-24F/949625841

best battery for daily driver

The problem with small light-weight batteries is they usually put out relatively low cold-cranking amps. This problem is magnified when you put the battery way back in the back and the current has to travel 15+ feet to get to the starter and alternator.

Just how heavy is the battery you were running before, and how soft are your rear springs? I can't tell any noticeable difference in ride height in the rear of my car between having my sub box and spare tire in vs. having them out (probably 80 lbs. total), and I only have stock ITR rear springs. Going by spring rate, it should only be about 1/4" difference in ride height at the most.

When I had 450 lb/in GC rear springs, there certainly was no discernable difference, as 80 lbs. would only compress the rear springs less than 1/8" on each side.

you can check this deepcyclebatterypros for some best battery list
