I think it is even higher. MOST twins I see are stock.

Most everything is stock, but still the point was how they marketed the cars.

Most twins I see are stock as well, occasionally I will see one with valenti's and/or exhaust/wheels. Usually only modded ones get a wave since I don't want to look crazy waving at a stock one/person who isn't down, or whatever.

I've owned a 03 GTI anniversary edition, and that community is similar to this one! FRIENDLY. It's really refreshing to see that in the world we have today!
I had a 135i for a while and sheesh, other 135 owners act like you wore the same dress to the prom!!!
I tend to be the friendly one and do the wave first with and I usually get a nod or a wave! But yeah, if it's bone stock they are less likely to notice me at all.
I try to avoid waving at a female driver for fears of beeing creepy, I imagine they get it a lot?

That is sad, for multiple reasons. Commercials are not the only type of marketing out there.

There are at least two, but probably more, people that had some contributions to designing the twins that are on this forum and multiple other social media sites that go into depth on what the car was designed for, the philosophy of why it was designed, and a lot more. They were paid to do this. This is the definition of marketing. Your statement makes me mourn for the human race.

Oh, and just because you should see a few of the commercials too:

Well I just saw another 86, with personalised number plates and enormous wing, and the amount of waving between myself and the woman driving it was embarrassing.

I just want to chime in and say I will wave to NOBODY. I dont even wave to other motorcyclists when I'm riding anymore. Maybe if they wave first because I'm not trying to make them feel bad if they think they're hot sh*t for riding and have to go around being acknowledged by everyone. I guess that's my rule, wave back but never first.

If I see another car on the road I think is cool (regardless of brand/model), I usually will (traffic permitting, obvs) make eye contact and give a nod of approval or thumbs up or whatever. On the bike, I give a biker wave to basically every single other biker I see.

Its the same mentality for both situations:

Maybe it’s rare to see any other cars on certain roads in Western Australia. Like the backwater roads in Northern Minnesota. You just don’t see anyone so everyone gets a tip.
