Welcome to the forum. I was like that for a while too. It's weird, but after a while, I got so used to it and don't even notice it unless I remembered to hear it.

Hello all,

A few weeks ago I went to a meeting with a Toyota Rep, Toyota Engineer, and the NCDS Arbitrator. My case was stated as this: the sound wasn't evident on the test run, and for under the first 3k miles for me, and that I wanted it fixed. After that the engineer showed a large amount of data supporting the fact that it was indeed the AC compressor kicking on. There was a small video of it, charts showing when the sound was occurring and when the AC compressor was kicking on. (Those matched up, just to be clear). It was proven whole sale to us all that the AC compressor was the culprit here. We went on a test drive and the sound was very evident.

After all this the NCDS refuses to recognize my claim, and supports Toyota's position that the "problem", tweet sound from the engine, is indeed not a problem, and the car is working within factory specs. In short, Toyota isn't doing anything about it.

I have this tweet. It's annoying as hell when the radio is off. I'm thinking about putting some high temp sound deadener around the AC compressor and the HPFP, since I also have the crickets.

I'm curious if anybody has tried tightening the belt, the noise seems to be from the belt slipping on the pulley as the clutch engages. I might do it but it doesn't bother me enough to take a look.

You can't tighten the belt.. The tensioner keeps a certain preload on it.
I don't understand why people think there is a problem with it.. It makes noise in its operation. This car has minimal to no sound deadining material to quell any noises.. It's the nature of the beast.. Buy a Camry or a Lexus if these operational noisies bother you.. All compressors kick in and the clutches makes noises.. If you want quiet.. Buy a 4000 lb car with lots of padding and comfy seats..

huh, how do you get the belt off? Now I want to go take my car apart... According to the manual you just unbolt the tensioner pulley and it magically comes apart.

Agreed that it's a pretty minor complaint.

You release pressure on the tensioner to remove the belt.
The tensioner maintains the belts tension...

That implies you can ADD pressure on the tensioner...

No it doesn't. Then Tensioner is spring loaded, to remove the belt you put a wrench on the tensioner and move it backwards against spring pressure, make sure your other hand is free while doing this as you now have to use the freehand to remove the belt from a pulley while still holding the wrench against the spring tension of the tensioner.

I'm getting the same tweet noise. I'll let my service advisor know, but it doesn't seem like a big deal.

I noticed it for the first time on the long trip I took over the weekend. The car now has about 2000 miles on it. Not sure if I just didn't notice it before because I usually have the radio on or because it just started doing it recently. I got the car in the Spring so I've been pretty much using the A/C all the time.

Good to know I wasn't imagining it and that it's apparently nothing serious. What was puzzling was that it sounds very much like an electronic sort of sound, not the usual buzz or rattle or whatever. I checked my GPS, my radar detector, my watch, my phone... . Thought I was going crazy.

I'm wondering if washing the engine bay/AC compressor will alleviate the noise. Just rinse it down with a very light spray of soapy water then clean water I think it may just be some dust between the AC clutch plate/pulley making the noise.

However do NOT use harsh soap and strong spray of water as you do not want force any water into the electronics and pulley bearings.
