People are getting all stupid over a problem that they will never see. It's somewhat comical IMHO. If Toyota comes out with a re-flash, will I get it? ABSOLUTELY! If they don't am I going to sell my car? HELL NO!
You're never going to redline and shift aggressively? Because that is the only cause laid out in the only published TSB. It may say this is "abnormal operation" but the description seems pretty damn normal to me.

Yeah it may only affect a small number of people, but I'd rather find out sooner than later.

Any ideas what speeds we are talking about on the street if you are upshifting from 3rd @7400rpm or so into 4th @5864rpm as that example implies?

I shift aggressively every every so often when the "need" occurs. And if it were a "big issue" there would be more affected. I can promise you that there are more than 20 people, just on this forum, whose car see red line pretty often. While I am not one of them, I know a couple of guys here in San Diego, who ran their cars pretty hard on the way up to Palomar, this included high RPM shifting.

@strat61caster, there is another TSB, at least it pertains to the DI system failing and it also requires an ECU flash. I'm gonna go try and get a copy here in a few if I have the time. I'm not sure it's the same thing, but it doesn't get touched according to Toyota unless there is a light or failure.

My tip has melted, now that my injector is overheated when I need it to spray it just pops and dribbles out. This happens whenever I pick up women after my track days.

You need to take that in for service.. Hopefully Obamacare will have a TSB for that soon...

Obamacare will cover that around the time the boat from Japan arrives with my replacement seals and injectors 2 years from now.

There should be a graph that shows the speeds relative RPMs somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

This post might give you an idea though.

If you're on 215/45/17 tires, then it will be 83.9 mph in 3rd gear at 7400 RPM.

If the ECU software revision came from Toyota, it certainly wouldn't be just for South Africa.
Toyota's total Africa sales of all vehicles amount to just 3% of Toyota's total world sales.

Just ask your dealer for the newest ECU software.

The latest ECU update was in November for the "idle dip" before this problem surfaced.

Edit: My bad December.

So everything I'm reading here seems to indicate that if you have a car built after 21JAN2013 you really don't have anything to worry about?

The problem only came to light a couple months ago, around February March.

There is zero official acknowledgement of this issue, the current status is if it blows you go get it replaced under warranty. Repeat until something changes. No "fix" as of yet.
