Jeezis, are you *kidding*?!

Sharing my thoughts because I considered this long and hard, and honestly it seems to me most of us who track these cars casually don't need an oil cooler. That's all. And I'd have been glad to share that anonymously if i'd thought for a second that anyone might construe this as my trying to gain "clout" in a totally obscure and 99.99% irrelevant internet forum!

This thread is derailed to shit and everyone's pointed out more or less everything within arm's reach of the platform citing how oil cooling is more or less necessary from aftermarket and otherwise and that running without it is nothing more than a gamble. (Which I've said at least twice in my posts by now, so there)
You take a lot of gambles at the track... IMO, 272F oil temps with known-good 30wt (or 40wt) synthetic oil is gonna be the least of your worries...

600$ for an oil cooler isn't exactly a bad investment to guarantee more or less safe power production near indefinitely
An oil cooler has *guaranteed* you no such thing...

Savagegeese might overblow some things but I think that his original videos were well warranted and highlighted clear issues clearly (with pressure and temp readings and UOAs which are fairly empirical.)
I must have missed his/their more informative videos, all I saw was a guy insisting on oil coolers without any supporting info. I probably missed something, please link relevant info as what I've seen has not been compelling...

Lol. I start a thread to simply point out noticing 250+ oil temps in a lap or two in upstate New York.

Who knows what it got to in that track run.....the point is I was simply pointing it out, knowing full well the 0w-20 that Subaru puts in from the factory ( and I use for daily driving in Atlanta) is simply yet again a no go with the 2nd generation.

Would be nice for a factory oil cooler for a "drivers car" that Subaru damn well knows people are tracking.

TLDR; A completely stock car at a press track event in 87 degree weather getting to 254+ is a no go for me dawg

Why? 254F is *nothing* for any halfway decent synthetic.

Because I enjoyed tracking my 2020 Outback XT Touring a couple weeks back in 93 degree Atlanta weather watching the turbo motor's oil temp not going above 240 even after pulling back into the pits.

And not changing the oil afterwards

Turbo motor with 50 more HP has longer, harder run on track in hotter weather and yet has lower oil temperature than a bone stock gen2 BRZ. Hmph.

Why do you think 254F+ is unacceptable? I'm mystified... For sure you can safely run good synth oil at 300F+ sump temps.

For sure SoA would find a way to deny warranty claims for a blown FA24 if they saw records of 300F+ oil temps?

I think that's unlikely standing alone on that data point.

You've obviously never dealt with a warranty claim with SoA. I had an initial denial of a replacement transmission at 20k miles with 4th gear synchro on it's way out.

I have, once or twice. Rather familiar with the process.

but anyway, 254F in a single lap of Monticello isn't acceptable IMO. Mishimoto's WRX cooler also looks like it will fit right on, but I'd rather have a better core so it would be awesome if they sold the sandwich plate separately.
Well firstly they were 3 lap runs at Monticello, not one, and the cars were on open for all and on a rotation. Why are we so worried about 250f?

I'm not an expert, but a quick google shows me a whole lot of cars getting those kinds of temps or higher during track days.

I know that @ZDan knows what hes talking about, so honestly since this is all based on some kind of reading of the tea leaves about it, I'd go with him.

I did quite a number of HPDE events throughout the year...no way I'm dumping my daily Nanodrive 0w-20 for a thicker oil just for a track day to compensate for high oil temps...that gets....expensive

Also too lazy to change pads when I get off track
If you’re not willing to do an oil change every track day, maybe track days aren’t for you.

Lol. 98f at 70% humidity. Dude. Thats about a wet bulb temp of 32. You should not be driving a car on a track - you are literally approach nil survivability for your body. You hit 105f at that humidity and your body goes into a heat accumulation that causes death.

But sure, at that point you would need some significant oil cooling! Lol!

EDIT:
And while I'm on that, I think Monticello was pretty hot due (everyone mentioned it) and that's because even though it was 85f out, the humidity was between 90-99 as everyone was mentioning it was raining. So an apparent temp of probably 100-110f

Science!
