I have such a weird in-between job, it's hard to describe. It's as if The Wolf was in IT. All these different teams & systems hum along until something bizarre happens. I only get the quiet call after the regular guys have trouble making sense of it. Almost nothing I do makes it to a ticket. All chats, email, and stacks of one-off notes buried in different places. Been like that for at least ten years.

I call the responsible people to tell them what I've found and make suggestions on how to fix whatever's broken. Sometimes it takes me days/weeks to grind on a single issue. Sometimes it's just a matter of introducing the right hand to the left.

Definitely not the most efficient way but it just seems to work. It's taken many years to get inside the circle of trust for so many different teams that I can quietly just encourage things to happen.

I write tickets sometimes. Auditors just shrug and identify me as "THAT guy."

I get it. Would've been too blatant. It did occur to me but I blew right past it. Really is a good question. I used to write, or try to write tickets for everything but they have to be books to follow in the spirit, and no one except auditors would read them. Shit's always too weird by the time I see it.
