Need help with junkyard fa

Hmm maybe it’s all from the bad di seals but this motor has been too much of a headache at this point. I think I might just go with a built short block as soon as I can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by Anklebiter4000; 10-09-2022 at 06:16 AM. |

I don't know that it's DI seals. RZNT4R makes good points. Is the compression even across all four?

It seemed like it, but the compression could’ve been higher on some. The starter wasn’t cranking very long for some of them. I pulled the transmission just to check the crank sensor plate behind the flywheel, and it turned out to be fine. I took the turbo manifold off and found oil on my exhaust gaskets and on the inside of the manifold. Think I’m just gonna try to take it back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I can now confim, add Hyundai/Kia Lambda V6 injectors to the list. Probably the easiest injectors I've ever pulled, PFI included. A bit of a lift with a flat head screwdriver and the whole fuel rail comes out with the bank's injectors, they slide back in perfect too, the seals probably aren't very tight, the new injector didn't pose more resistance than the two old ones that already had an out-and-in in them. |

I don't have nearly the expertise of a seasoned wrench like @RZ4NTR but I have installed FA20 DI's. It's not exactly a walk in the park like other DI installations that I researched. I got mine in without incident, but I think the car gods were smiling on me that day.

I mean I've done it both ways on the VW 888, reuse seals, install new seals, results were the same, except with the hassle of installing new seals. The SST in the brz/86 manual are kinda interesting, the big disc to shrink it back down seems dumb, I learned to do it on the Aprilia DiTech like 15 years ago with a piece of hose and a hose clamp. It gently, softly and uniformly clamps down on the seal to shring it back onto the groove. The Aprilia injector was an absolute pain in the butt, one teflon ring and 4 o-rings all had to be perfect or that crap would not even start, and you're working that thing down in the body of a scooter.
But hey, I haven't had to deal with the twins injectors, mine is fine and they're not really popular cars here thanks to winter, but the injector looks a lot like it's got the same design as the usual Bosch deal (aside from the little taper thing). Either Subaru went bonkers on the tolerance for the hole, or there really is something to the injector itself. I mean, BMWs are a bitch to come out, but that's carbon, they go in fine, no freezer shennanigans. |

When I put mine in with new seals, it was very very hard to get them in. I ended up getting them in far enough to start threading the bolts, and carefully tightened each side down, alternating left to right until they went in all the way. Everything ended up OK for me as a first timer

I haven't seen other DI designs but functionally, the taper makes sense to me, especially if the seal is molded from ePTFE like Gore-Tex. First time the combustion chamber feels any pressure, the seal slips up and wedges into the tapered section. ...I think.
