I wish Subaru would make this...

In an impossible world where we would each have a magic blue pony that would grant all wishes, I'd love to see Subaru re-introduce the SVX, and in particular, with a manual transmission. Just like this one:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-subaru-svx-12/

The SVX was back in the good ole' days when Subaru was more out there and willing to be closer to the edge. They made a Flash-Gordon inspired futuristic 2-door coupe, with AWD, a naturally aspirated flat-6 engine, and even window-in-a-window side windows. What could be cooler? My tastes are weird enough that I lusted after the SVX back when it was in production over 25 years ago, but I was obsessed with manual transmissions.

I've heard of manual swaps into the SVX. I've followed this car and have seen it for sale before. It sounds like it was done properly. But, now being on Bring-A-Trailer, it will probably sell for a medium-sized fortune.

I was big into SVXs before going to turbo subarus.

I owned about 15 of them. I loved them but man they were such a pain to work on..Almost all modifications required some level of cutting / customization.

Yup. All those old Japanese GT’s were pretty amazing.

If Subaru was to revive the name, I bet they’d make it a two-seater mid/rear engine and charge $70k for it. I’ve turned fairly pessimistic regarding revivals. It makes me more determined than ever to start saving my pennies for the right cream-puff to come along on BaT. Then I’d actually get a manual with that nice progressive feedback that I remember.

@NWFRS, the 1990's Japanese GT's were the peak of their automotive engineering prowess. So many great cars from that era. Acura NSX. Toyota Supra. Mitsubishi 3000GT (also available with AWD, 6 speed manual, and even a retractable hardtop). Nissan 300ZX Turbo. And of course the Subaru SVX (if only they'd offered it with a manual transmission...). All over-engineered, built better than they needed to be, and phenomenal performers.

They were a product of Japan's bubble economy of the 90's, when money flowed freely and such engineering luxuries were possible. We'll never see their like again.

They were bankrupt a long time ago. They cannot support such designs nowadays.

Yeah!

Exactly. Even my last car, a ‘92 MR2, seemed oddly luxurious in terms of cabin comfort and sound proofing, considering how small it was. The factory black leather cabin interior really helped.

One of my buddies has 350k miles on a heavily upgraded/modified Mk3 Supra. He can’t seem to find a replacement that he likes. I think he’s resigned himself to being buried in that car, he loves it so much. It’s a very clean/restored white example with blue leather and vinyl. He bought it new.

Another buddy put about 100k miles on a ‘92 SC400. The power delivery of that car was incredibly smooth. At that point in my life, I was blown away by the ride quality and cabin comfort. It was an auto of course, but very striking in burgundy over beige leather.

I had Katzkin upholstery installed in my FRS, to try to recreate that ‘90’s cabin comfort that I used to enjoy so much. Of course it’s just not the same.

I wasn't much a fan of the SVX but did like the XT6. I think either car would end up having to be almost unrecognizable if rebooted though.

Yup! That’s it! Are they really making that? These things are starting to feel like movie sequels-shamelessly attempting to cash-in on names that they think will elicit the warm fuzzies from people. And maybe they do. I don’t know.
