I too have already started this. I bought the jdl intercooler pipes for short routing. The intercooler in buying will be from eBay because they are literally the "same" design as the jdl kit or greddy. Honestly looking at the ic pipes on ebay it could be that it was taken from there and jdl just created a 30 degree flex piece that holds the bov. But hey that's just me. I'm going probably by the jdl manifold only because I want UEL. The maperformace manifold may not work with routing.

Well, I finished up most everything I could do with it in the air-
Transmission fluid replaced
STI strut mounts
Verus carbon fiber driveshaft
Sideways fab solid trans mounts (will be replaced by an STI mount)
White line front swaybar endlinks
Torque solutions motor mounts
Energy suspension swaybar bushings
Performance pack BRZ Sachs struts
Eibach pro-kit lowering springs
Sanded and repainted the struts, swaybar and swaybar brackets
Stripped the engine down and re-sleeved some of the engine harness
Cleaned some nasty pulley rust

It rolls (kinda, brakes are so rusty it's like pushing uphill), now it just needs the expensive stuff!
When we do the engine it'll get new pads and rotors; no sense putting them on to just rust.

Got the Apex wheels mounted with the Nitto NT555R in a 245/45, looks badass! Also fixed my super bad door handle fade on both sides.

Next up- IAG stage 1 10:1 CR block, heads are getting decked and refinished, kelford valve springs are being dropped in.
Need to remove the flex sections from the headers, they're going to rust out eventually.
Need to build a new downpipe that won't melt my cam sensor wiring from being too close.

Sorry for repeat photos

Also- I'm definitely going to need a spacer up front, it's hardly a credit card width from touching the spring perch on the struts.. and the rear needs a spacer to line up perfectly with the fender. So maybe I'll do some extended wheel studs and throw a 10mm slip on up front and a 15 bolt on spacer in the back

Also made a custom radio delete plate out of steel. My phone and iPad will have a case with a small magnet attached for easy mounting and viewing ECUTEK with the Bluetooth kit.

Previously, I had boost and oil temp there. Boost has been moved off to the left in a vent pod, and oil temp will be monitored through ECUTEK- and since my radio is mounted below, this makes perfect sense to me. We'll see how it functions in practice.

Edit- bottom photoa are how it looked before

I've looked at all the same parts and came to the same conclusions. That eBay "Greddy" intercooler should work with any of the JDL manifolds, pretty sure the UEL & EL have the same turbo placement, but it won't line up with the MAPerformance manifold without modifying the compressor side piping. The BL54X turbo from DarkPira7e's find over at BoostLab might be a good fit while being significantly cheaper than a similar Garrett turbo, someone over at BoostLab would need to confirm though.

The compressor side piping may need an extra pipe and coupler. I was offered a cx racing manifold. If I don't get the JDL manifold for the blackfriday sale then I'll just try the maperformance manifold.

Search "frs intercooler piping" on eBay and you'll find similar piping for around $155.

I finally got around to unboxing the JDL intercooler to compare it with the CXracing intercooler.

I have no gripes with CXracing's setup, it functioned very well. If anyone uses it in the future, here's my recommendation-

Re-roll the beads at the ends of the piping like I did, they're not very pronounced
Ditch the trash BOV it comes with or block off the BOV
Replace all your clamps

Here are a few things I noticed-

The tube and fin arrangement of the JDL intercooler will allow for better heatsoak recovery.

JDL's choice to only ship coated parts obviously means the piping is far less prone to marring and scratches.

There are quite a few sections of the JDL intercooler piping that are significantly more narrow than the CXracing Kit's piping

The MAF flange is noticeably better on the JDL kit

The JDL kit is going to require a lot of material to be cut from the stock crash bar; the CXracing kit bolts to it easily.

There is absolutely no difference in the couplers. Not in manufacturing detail nor kinesthetic feel.

Conclusion-

The CXracing intercooler is great, but to be able to get the JDL setup at the same cost is a no brainier.
Though I'll miss the 90s aesthetic of raw aluminum piping and how it completely fills from FRS bumper.

Here are some photos to compare.

Ordered a bunch of stuff! Just waiting on it to come in.
Direct Injector seals
Radium fuel rails
ID1050X injectors
Velox passenger side fuel rail cover / DI ECU bracket
Fidanza lightweight flywheel
Exedy stage 2 clutch (weird 3 puck)
Torque Solutions lightweight crank pulley
A/C Delete bracket
Mishimoto fan shroud w/1150cfm fans
STI transmission mount
Fumoto oil valve
4 new OCVs
All new bolts for the front cover and misc accessory bolts
Serpentine belt
STI PCV

That's it for now, until next paycheck maybe? Getting much closer!
2 of the direct injectors had really bad seals, can't believe how the car ran as well as it did in this condition.
