Except the difference is that I don't get into yelling matches with my boss and know how to do my job. Any criticism or suggestions actually come from a solid understanding of how to do my job.

Well, being his supervisor, wasn't it part of your job to mentor him, train him (or make sure he was being trained), make sure he was aware of the work guidelines and show him by example .......

I remember back-in-the-day, when I was a manager of an agricultural research station, in California, that I had this sharp young fellow (who was a minority) that I hired ...... turn out to be a pain, because he couldn't get along with the other technicians.

One day he pissed off my senior technician (who was a minority) one too many times and he literally drug the young man into my office (which was a house).

The young minority man "went off" on me and leaned across my desk ....... I lost it and literally threw him out of my office and told him he was fired and to never set foot on my station again........

See, that was back in 1968 ....... however, the next day, the personnel manager called me and told me that I didn't really have the authority to fire a minority without building a case through documentation, but, that, he would take care of that.

Ahhh.......yes, the good old days ......

Ya, I found that out when I commanded and trained young men right out of school ...... the difference was ........ most of them didn't want to be there ..... because they were drafted.........
