How clean are the valves?

Hey I was wondering if there have been any recent teardowns of high-mileage cars and how the valves were looking? Approaching 100k miles and I had been thinking of doing an induction service (BG induction cleaner).

Well its got port injectors so I would imagine they'd be alright at this point, get an oil catch can and you wont have to worry about it

Just pulled an Edelbrock supercharger off a customers car with 120k miles. Valves were pretty damn clean, with just some oil in the intake passages. The port injectors really do a good job of keeping things clean.

As others have said the fact this car has D4S port and direct injection, the port injectors literally "wash" the valves clean. It wouldn't be a bad thing to run though, I'm not sure how well additives work in reality or if they're just snake oil. If you're spending the money on the tune-up it wouldn't hurt it to try, it would be smart to clean your throttle body and maf sensor as well anyway.

Radroach, you pick the darndest things to worry about -

I doubt that cleaner will do any harm, it may make you feel better, but I doubt your car's engine will notice any change.

Was there a catch can on this car? If so, for how many of the 120k?

No catch can ever for the life of the car.

Have not reached 100k yet but on 60k they look like this - clean as built .

Made an endoscopic inspection right before I installed my header

The primary concern is with the intake side on GDI motors. But since we have port injectors too, the common GDI gunk issues don't seem to be a problem.

I will be pulling out my motor this winter, should have over 70k on it by them with lots of track time. I will be taking a peak at the intake to see as well.

Intake valves were in similar condition.

In any way, the presence of port injection saves us from may problems of direct injection!

Pictures are always nice. Intake will usually have build up, curious on how much exactly.

FYI, usually exhaust valves are always clean, since the hot exhaust will burn off all the carbon.

How clean are the valves?

This was 30k+. My current engine had a lot more buildup at 70k+, but no worse then a port injected engine.
