Yeah, same. I'm only 41 so I haven't had an 8 track car, but all the others. Spotify is so convenient and good enough that it has become my default.

All I was saying is that there is a trade off in quality in return for the convenience. And that there doesn't have to be a tradeoff at all if Spotify would use a higher quality format.

Oh snap, looks like it's happening:

They can take my money. I will certainly pay for that.

As long as there's some way to play CD's in the car, I think that will be OK. My hearing s**ks anyway, but my wife (it will be her car) has a fine ear for music (has played piano for 50+ years, now into playing electric guitar) will probably notice poor stereo performance. A device to play discs stuffed into the glovebox or wherever is not intolerable.

I might be able to top that. Had an 8-track recorder, made my own 8-track tapes from vinyl. Didn't say they were any good...

Sure you can tell the difference between high quality and low quality digital music. But their reaches a point where it's people with money trying to be snobby.

There was a study years ago with "audiophiles" that couldn't tell the difference between super high end speaker wire and literal coat hangers transferring the signal from the received to the speakers.

It's just like the dipshit internet reviewers that claim to be able to feel the different in 25lb per inch, spring rates.

I have a used OEM Accessory subwoofer all in for around $300. I'm not an audiophile but IMO it sounds great. Plenty of punch for my needs and there's not a giant box eating up half of your trunk space. When new, I think it was a $500 accessory, and if you're rolling that into a monthly payment it is definitely worth it.

Nice. I don't think I had an 8 track recorder. Those were hell of expensive.

I always wanted a reel to reel though.

I used to record songs off the radio onto my cassette player through the microphone just so I could playback and figure out the lyrics. Before lyrics were readily available on the internet, which didn't exist back then. I know. I'm old.

Do we know if the 2022 will have that same port available for the subwoofer, or if the new OEM stereo will even support it?

I didnt see the speaker listed as an option.

I swore I had seen a post about them adding it but I can no longer locate that post. I'm sure they'll update the 1st gen Kicker sub and sell it again in the 2nd gen.

There’s no port on the back of the radio, the subwoofer harness intercepts the speaker outputs and has its own crossover in the harness. That’s one of the reasons it sounds better than stock, it stops the small speakers from trying to output low frequencies and feeds those to the sub instead.

Is it confirmed for compatibility with the '22+ though?

No it is not confirmed. We could probably find out from digging in the wiring diagrams though.

@geraldjust may know already. He’s looked at the diagrams in some depth.

Finally, someone agrees that extra steps are needed to get anything decent out of Spotify. Everytime someone trys to get me to use it, it sounds like hot garbage. Can't even make out the lyrics half the time the compression is so bad

Did you buy premium or just stream it? When downloaded at high quality it’s fine, streaming sounds like ass on data since it defaults to low quality.

But personally, I love using Spotify. Have an automation on my phone to launch it and play a specific playlist whenever it connects to the car. Can’t beat that!

Everything I've heard has been streamed. Everyone has always just told me either I'm screwed up and it's fine, or the hardware that's streaming it is janky...

Thanks for a finally reasonable explanation of why it's always sounded like millions of forks down a marble staircase.

And I just convert YouTube songs to mp3's for playback
