Future wheels, needing new tires

Yo, I'm considering changing my wheels in the near future but currently I'm in need of new tires. My new wheels are going to be 17x8.5–I'm currently running stock 17x7.

My question is: will the stock tire size (215/45-17) fit on my new wheels? I was considering going 245/40-17 all-around and I'm not sure if those would fit.

Will fit, yes. Should fit? No. A 235 or 245 would be perfect.

Alright. If I get 235 or 245, could I put them onto my stock wheels for the time-being?

235 or 245 are a little too wide for stock size wheels. People have put a 235 on stock wheels, but it is not recommended.

While technically both 235/40 and 245/40 will fit on the 17x7, the tires are too wide and will be "pinched". I would suggest getting tires at the same time as your new wheels.

Also, what offset are the 17x8.5 wheels?

I would prefer not to get another set when I get new wheels since I need new tires atm to pass inspection. I assumed since the size was only slightly larger I could get away with putting them onto my stock wheels for the time being.

Also either +38 or +40: https://tinyurl.com/y64qumvz

Then maybe think about a compromise... 225/45/17 will fit on both sizes without any problems.

+38 is Great!

For reference, I've had 255s on 17x7 before. Just gives a beefy tire look. Its totally doable. But follow leo's advice. But just so youknow you CAN run the bigger size on 17x7

What aspect ratio? because a 235/45/17 fits better on a 17x7 than a 235/40/17. I have 255s on an 8" wheel, but they are 55 series.

I believe 255/45 all seasons were on the 17x7. That's what the previous owner had on. I'm turning those 17x7 into winters, and got 18x8 225/40 uhp summers with help from you a few months back.

Turning the smaller wheels into winters is a great plan. Glad I was able to help you awhile back.
