My sports car with a 100hp/L boxer engine has a rough idle, Oh my God. I just can't belive it, what am I going to do, the sky is falling

Seriously until a see a hole in a piston I ain't worried about it. Just give it a little gas before the ECU takes over the idle control until Toyota fixes it.

Up/down/up/down (oscillation) at idle is a classic ECU/controls issue, probably went too far trying to meet a silly emmsions at idle regulation. Any EE's here that could explain what I am saying better?

Regal,

I'm not sure if you were in a bad mood when you decided to alienate the people on here, who are having legit issues with their vehicles. This isn't the thread for bashing or being verbally abusive over an issue that you feel isn't worthy of YOUR time. Please choose a better outlet to waist your time. We, myself included have an issue that for the most part is a big deal being that these are new cars, and yes it might be an easy enough ECU fix. However for now it isn't. So trouble shooting and talking through the issues pushes forward awareness and understanding of the issue at hand. So unless you have something thats constructive and not destructive find yourself elsewhere. Or not, its just a website.

Didn't read through the entire thread, but I'm having what seems to be the same issue. Idling at around 600rpm (BRZ, 6MT, AC off, 4700 miles on the odo) and it will drop to about 350-400, the car shudders for a second or two, and then recovers. No CEL, no actual stall of the engine.

Took it into the dealership Friday, they called me back today and said since it isn't actually stalling, it's within spec, and they won't fix it. Should I push back or just live with it?

They wont fix it because they don't know how too, besides throwing parts at the car. Something is wrong with the initial programming or to that extent and perhaps because it's in "Spec" there is no fix for it. You can push man, i tried it but they told me strait up that they have no idea what it was.

As long as the CEL doesn't come on, I would live with it. They probably won't do anything until then.

On the other thread this guy has a bulletin from Toyota stating that there is a problem with the rough idle, it is acknowledged by Toyota (im not sure about Subaru). It also states how to test for it precisely and instructions on where to send it after. I would use this as a way of getting your car into the shop and have them fucking at least make a note of it, and send your information in. Later on you have paper trail saying they're inept and you had to tell them how to do their job. It will help for sure if/when they start talking about compensating us, you have some ammo to shoot off to make them easier to negotiate with.

Just my 2 cents.

It's a leaked Toyota Australia document. No one from Toyota/Subaru USA has acknowledged the problem. I would print it out anyways and follow the procedure to see of you can somehow trip a CEL. There's also a Subaru TSB that you can still find a link to but Subaru pulled that one as well.

so i was waiting in line at the a fast food drive through and noticed that my car shakes when idle and not moving every now and then. i had to wait in line for about 8 minutes or so and when at a complete stop the car just started to shake/rumble for a second or two while being idle. this i believe this happened twice during that 8 minute wait.

i wanted to see if anyone else got this same shake/rumble when sitting idle in the thread, but didn't want to look through 35 pages worth of full postings. so sorry if this is a reposted question guys!

Reading one or two pages would have sufficed and answered your question.

This is the "rough idle" that has over 1,500 posts dedicated to it.

Miss Fire, idle issue, stall, Cel & slip light, p0019, p0017,

Hi guys,
Brendan here from South Africa, so i test drove a Toyota 86 on the Tuesday and really gunned it for about 36km, got back to the garage and bought it, received it on the Friday and got the dreaded cell, misfire, uneven idle and stall issue on Sunday when pulling in to the driveway after a long drive +- 300km, took it in to the dealer on Monday they reset the cell light as there was no sign of trouble accept for the p0019 error code they pulled, so i got the car back, the next day same story, misfire and uneven revs, so i noticed that this only happens when the engine is at normal running temp, went back to dealer, apparently my 86 was one of six in the country with the problem, i insisted on a replacement car as i believed i bought a lemon, that triggered Toyota customer care to jump in,
at the end of the day the problem was with the right bottom VVTI cam gear, there is a type of snail spring inside the gear that controls the advance and retard of the cam according to the oil pressure, and because of me hitting the red-line before the engine was at temp, it caused the spring to lodge in an advanced position hence the problem only there at temp and not start-up. so easy fix, they drained the oil removed the oilpan cover exposing the VVTI gears removed the cover from the faulty gear exposing the spring and clened that out there was a small scrach on the cover where the spring got cauhgt, used 1200 sand paper to rectify, put every thing back and vola 2300km down the road and still no problems

Well I took my car in today to have a tail light ordered (condensation), while I was there I mentioned the idle dip, and cricket sounds. Well 3 hours later, I got word that my tail light will be here tomorrow, along with a new fuel pump. They couldnt get the idle dip to duplicate tho, and have yet to get the reflash.

Just giving everyone an update on my forever going idle dip...

Hey Guys,
So basically I am having the same issue with my FRS (MT). I already took my car to the dealer for the high pressure fuel pump like 2 months ago. That issue is gone but now there another one. I have uploaded a video to YouTube so you guys can see what is going on with the engine ([ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb0H5IvRR0Y&sns=em"] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb0H5IvRR0Y&sns=em[/ame] )I have noticed this issue like 2 weeks ago.

Thanks Will

Is this your first car with AC? Cause that seems an awful lot like the AC kicking on
