Ya, but then you're back into a new, unproven model. And....we are at a point where we really need a new car anyway.

With our crappy luck, my guess is we'd buy an STI for 2013, the new one will come out in 2014 and look fantastic. Then my wife will want that one instead, LOL.

Nah....what we think we're doing at this point is getting our money back, and waiting until the January production BRZ's hit America in like March and hopefully by then, the CEL issue will have been solved.

She really fell in love with the BRZ, so I think that's what she should get.....unless of course, it's not fixed then either.

I really hate VVT. Seems so many relatively good cars have been plagued with problems once they instituted VVT trying to get better economy while maintaining good power.

I'd personally trade MPG (within reason) for reliability....but I know I'm in the minority on that one.

I don't think anyone really knows to be fair.

You have massive speculation on the WRX and STI....especially now that they are supposed to split from the Imprezza line. On-line forums have been producing CAD prototypes of the new skin.....for years....and those have all been wrong.

Rumors of the 270hp turbo'd 2.0L have been out for a while....the time line is what's in question.

Some dealers have told me 2016 at the earliest, others say 2014, some told me 2015. The forums all say it'll be next year and internet experts that supposedly have inside information claim it will be 2014.....but who knows for sure? It's not like you can vet their credentials.

Heck, there are rumors that the BRZ is going to get turbo'd in 2014.....it could, but who knows if it will.

It'll happen when it happens I suppose.

Hmmm....13K+ members here. Only 6K BRZs in the US so far is my understanding....I would guess Scion has similar FRS numbers.

I wonder how many of the 13K members here actually have a BRZ or FRS? Anyone know?

I am not an expert, but I believe that variable valve timing systems are now widely used across brands and I have not heard of failures endemic to this technology. Maybe Toyota's VVT is crap, but I would not know.

Not to wave the Honda banner yet again, but the big H. has produced millions of engines with VTEC and have had not a single failure related to the VTEC system. And if you have never driven a Honda with VTEC, I can tell you that it's a beautiful thing.

My car been in the shop since 8/31/12. Was told last week ECU was ordered, due in Wed, now Scion has informed me it will be Fri. Scion rep. keeps reassuring me I will be compensated for the headaches. Fri. will be 2 days short of qualifying for lemon. When it does become a lemon, I think I will ask for refund and wait till next year. Just don`t feel comfortable about keeping this car with Toyota not knowing for sure how to correct problems.

Toyota's VVT(VVTI) is definitely not crap. Also keep in mind it's Subaru's version of vvt (AVCS) from my understanding.

Also to the guys who are "fixed"... prior to my Ecu getting flashed for the fix while my cel was reset and off when I would go WOT at about 5000-5500 rpms I would get a deeper note from the car almost like vtec noise is the only way I can put it... now that its reflashed its all gone.(on my stock map)

Today is officially 3 weeks with my car at the dealer. I was told by the Scion Rep that my parts should arrive on 9/27. I just called the service writer at Toyota and he said he has no knowledge of that and that he shows the parts are still on backorder. Really getting pissed now, plus the fact that they still haven't pre-emptively ordered an ECU for me (IMO it's better to have it there and not need it than to try the parts, see they need an ECU, then have to wait again)!!!

Plus my 2nd car payment is due in a week and a half. So far I have driven my car 3 weeks in total and I'm getting ready to make my second fricken payment.

I'm in a 2012 Camry, which is what I started with. It needed oil change, got 2011 Camry, then Scion IQ, now back to 2012 Camry. Would prefer to be riding in my FR-S.
