Read and weep
ditto same struggle here. I received email from Lana @ SOA that my parts will be in 10/5 & that puts my car in the shop for 19days just waiting on parts. I asked for an email with specific part numbers (assuming that its the hard parts they want to replace per my codes.) I'm wishing an ECU is a part of this order.(doubtful).

UPDATE: Dealer and Scion have told me my car would be ready last Friday, didn't happen. Monday, didn't happen. Today, didn't happen. Of course I had to call at 5 pm just to find out. Apparently another code, maybe the same one. No ETA. Scion Rep, Clayton says they are trying to figure out what to do next. Day 28 in the shop came and went. Maybe the dealer should have sent a guy to training to prevent this.
To my knowledge they still haven't replaced the ECU or reflashed it. They refuse to listen to me. I'm 40 years old and fix things for a living. Not sure why this repair should take so long. I can't imagine having something for a month and not have it fixed, unless I was waiting on back ordered parts. My customers wouldn't stand for it, nor should they.

two more days and it would be a lemon in my state

Update: Dealership called me and the ECU came in early. They installed it and they said the problem went away but want to keep it for another day just to be sure. If everything goes well I get my car tomorrow! So far Toyota has paid for my first car payment. My dealership also told me they are pressing Toyota for more compensation for me.

I wonder in those states with the 'working days' if they count Saturdays if the service department is open. Sounds silly, just make it 30 days.

Ohio is 30 calendar days.

Hammer them. File a complaint with the NHTSA: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

Toyota/Subaru are not communicating adequately about this issue, and they need to understand that this is not acceptable.

Write a letter to that dealership explaining that they need to have techs trained on this car and cc it to corporate. Push for a months payment at the least...what you are going through is nonsense.

She has promised me an update by Friday.
This is my rep and she is shit-awful. Pretty certain she's a robot progrrammed to parrot the company line, and isn't helpful in the least.

From the Reimbursement thread:

Let me preface this by stating that despite this being Scion USA, I was told I had to fax my copy of my purchased warranty. When I asked if I could just e-mail her a PDF, because who the hell owns a fax, she obviously lied and told me their "email system is too old to accept attachments..."

Up until I changed jobs about 4 months ago I primarily deployed Microsoft Exchange 2010 for a living, usually higher end multi-premises and HA deployments. I've walked into some tragically outdated situations, I'm talking swinging Lotus Domino 6.5.4 from circa 2000 to something modern. Or worse yet some cludge of vanilla ISP accounts. Never have I seen an e-mail system so old that it "doesn't accept attachments". You would literally have zero business continuity without this ability, and I refuse to buy for even a second that Toyota / Scion can't accept fucking e-mail attachments. Conclusion: I'm obviously being lied to. Not a good sign.

So I'm being asked to fax in a copy of my warranty purchase, fine. They should have a copy of it, but whatever. Since I can't find an accessible fax system I grab one of about a dozen fax apps for the iphone and use the always wonderful Turboscan to generate a nice-but-admittedly-not-flawless PDF of my sheet and fax it to to her. Here's a sample:

She complains that it came in too light, that I will need to send it again. Since I'm driving home from my job around this time, and probably won't have time to fax it in before COB, and since i don't think it's possible to get a much better scan, I ask her why she can't just look it up or contact the dealer.

She then hems and haws about how the dealer will drag their feet about sending it in, at which point I realize just what she is doing and I completely lose it. She's putting the onus on me to send them a copy of a document that they probably have in multiple locations in their own records. At the very least a customer conscious representative should acquiesce and get the form from the dealer. Perhaps even, oh, I don't know, tell the dealer to do their goddamned job and get them the records they require to service their customer.

Nope, not Lisa, she has to force me to send her again a "darker" copy of the goddamned paperwork, jump through hoops to help them reimburse me for their own screw up.

So I send it in to her Thursday, and don't hear back until today (the following Tuesday) at which point she informs me that they are willing to go halves on my warranty, which was $1340. So despite my inability to ever trust this car, they are willing to hook me up with the warranty for half-price.

I'm so insulted I am unable to really contain my displeasure at the offer. I inform Lisa that I want to speak to her supervisor, who is supposed to call me back to discuss.

Welp that's my story. Nothing to really add except "What the hell Scion? Seriously."

I'm not sure if we'll be putting in an order for a 2014 BRZ at this point (hoping the CEL issue is figured out by then) or just going with the STI. The dealer says he's going to give us a really good "deal" on the STI for our trouble. We'll see. I think my wife's heart is set on the BRZ.....

Like I said, not sure how I feel about it. I love the look of the BRZ, but the power in the STI couldn't with AWD for our planned move to CO are appealing....too bad the STI is so fugly.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Take care and best wishes,
Sean
I wouldnt buy an STI now as a new one is due in 2014

I got an update from Scion yesterday.

They told me the parts should be at the dealership and I should have my car by Thursday. I asked what was going to be replaced and instead of telling the rep I read on a forum I just told him I knew a few people with their cars in the shop and that one had some parts replaced and had to go back and the second one just had their ECU flashed.

The rep said we were going to replace the VVTI Gear but after the reps got a chance to do a little more research they decided with the dealer that the ECU needs to be replaced.

I asked if it is being replaced or reflashed and was told that the dealer already tried the reflash and that didnt work so they will be replacing my ECU.

Hate to say it but it seems like the first batch of people were trial and error =\
