To get those numbers you are banging gears and slamming the clutch as fast as possible. Definitely not good for the drivetrain, but the odd occasion probably won't do much harm.

You can see in the car and driver YouTube video of the 2017 86 getting a 6.2 second 0-60 he had to launch the car at around 4000rpm with revs going up when clutch dumping, then basically flat foot shifting and slamming the clutch between gears.

  • find what data is coming from those ABS sensors at a constant 60 mph when driving
in a straight line (highway?) and using an external GPS as a speedo

Using front ABS sensors instead of any data from the rear wheels eliminates wheel slip
from the calculations.

And then GPS is really good at measuring constant speed,
but really bad when measuring changing speed.

This is how I tested my 2013 MT on E85 and gutted cats. I don’t recall the exact numbers but it was right at 6s. This is also with RT615K+ tires.

With the new one it will be possible to do from idle.

Btw, I have seen in one video 6.9s from launch for GR86. I hope it is just very bad driver

Redline Reviews’ on-street 0-60s were pretty slow.

Does go to show there are magazine / perfect conditions / pro drivers numbers and then what most people will actually be able to pull off in everyday conditions numbers, and those can be as much as a second apart.

This almost always favors turbos and AWD btw. That setup is a proven recipe for straight line speed with normal people and conditions. I seem to recall a C&D test about 20yrs ago where they let several members of the public drive a couple cars while they were testing a group of them and the old 227hp bugeye WRX was faster for more people than the 350hp C5 Vette was.

... as well as an automatic transmission and launch control.

An STI will probably also be a second or two slower if you launch it without a clutch dump at high-ish revs.

Keep in mind it was 100 degrees at the track and they said very humid, plus the cars had been running laps all day.

So probably a fair amount of power loss from the weather and heat soak impacting performance. I know I'm not alone in finding our cars feel much punchier in cooler weather and sluggish in the summer. On a 70 degree day with dry weather 6,1 is likely easy without too aggressive a launch.

Yeah, being on such a light platform for the first time for me, it amazes me all the little differences I pick out. I definitely notice power changes in the following scenarios:
Temperature changes
Adding a passenger
Running A/C

Yep. Wife always gives me a look when I turn off the A/C as she knows I'm about to do something stupid.

Oof.

As a former blobeye WRX owner (basically the same car) who has driven a C5, I can confirm that's BS lol. Not in a million years. Maybe, *maybe* like in 60ft time or something but no-way-no-how are you killing a C5 in any kind of race.

Also, doesn't help that he's a professional dork and totally dresses (and acts) like a 40 yr old virgin.

For the love of God, that thumbnail...the cringe

A/C doesn't run at full throttle.
