All you need to know is that the 86 and BRZ are done.

LOL, there are now TRD versions of the Camry and Avalon. The 86 is the unwanted bastard child.

TRD Camry

TRD Avalon

Now this is combining the sales of the BRZ and 86 in the US in 2018 and comparing it against the MX-5.

In 2018 the MX-5 sold 8,971 units
The BRZ sold 3,834 units
The 86 sold 4,133 units

Total Twins sales = 7,967 vs the MX-5 selling 8,971 units

So what this means... lol I dunno just thought I'd share this info, might not even be that correct. Didn't exactly research it more than a few mins.
And that more than doubles the numbers for the Nissan 370Z!

I'm not optimistic it'll get a second life, but I wouldn't call it a failure, more of 'proof that the internet doesn't actually buy the cars they say they want'

When I purchased my IS300 my criteria was:
1: Manual
2: RWD
3: LSD
4: small sedan
5: Japanese

That basically left me with one option, the IS300.

When I picked up the FRS I had literally the same criteria only I was willing to budge on it being Japanese. That left me with zero options other than an M3. So I budged on the extra two doors as long at it had rear seats. Which left me with one option, a Twin. The Twins may have sold well in the segment but what other options are there (not including the Miata because it doesn’t have rear seats)?

This right here. If you need back seats at all, there is no alternative on the market. The closest thing would be a Genesis coupe or a 230i, but both of those are 500lbs+ over the twins, so that's a non starter for a sports car for me.

And no LSD which I think people severely undervalue.
