Possible Competition
Hi Guys,
I am from Singapore and I have been monitoring this forum since last year. Well forums are for discussions and here I am joining in the wait. Just something to ponder, is there a possibility that Toyota is actually planning to go head-to-head with the new Honda Civic as these 2 days I read some news from my side on the new variants. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=4165 Do you guys think that it is going to be very very similiar to the 2.4 Civic Si that holds 200hp and 230Nm of torque? Good Fuel Economy, Coupe, Sporty Performance. Most probably this Civic will be around 2600-2800lbs also. Production dates are similiar too! |

The civic SI will be heavier than 2800 lbs. The current model is 3000+ lbs right now. And I rather RWD>FWD after my RSX.

back to the topic. Just looking at hp & weight then yes, it can compete w FT86c... but looking more can new Civic gonna be RWD and can drift around (w/o using side brake). |

I found this in last months R&T:
I think this will be more of a competition than the civic if it comes to be

The whole point of this car is that it's RWD. I would say both a Miata and a 1-series are competition long before a Civic.

That concept accord looks tempting. However, the renderings don't even really compare to the FT-86's.

As people have stated above, nothing to compare.
1. RWD>FWD 2. New Civic SI fails with regard to design IMO. 3. FT-86 should be lighter than the '11 Civic SI. I feel it's difficult to find cars to compare with the FT-86. The closest cars are either 2-seater convertibles, expensive luxury coupes, or high-power overweight coupes. The FT-86 is not going to be in any of those categories (or at least the car was not planned to). That article talking about the Accord-based sports car Honda is "thinking" about making could be promising, but then I read that it was going to be FWD... (refer to point 1 above). Yes, they may make an SH-AWD version, but I don't like it (we have an MDX). If I wanted an AWD car, Subaru would be my choice. Although, the new rumors about Honda restarting their NSX project is exciting news. But I hope they learned from their CR-Z mistake and steer away from hybrid-(wannabe)sports cars. |

Yeah, really looking forward to this car. If it is just a little heavier due to fancy electronics, I will strip all of them out.

My bad. I was looking at the base model.
Si is around 2,900. Damn, that's crazy that there's a 300 lb difference between the base and si.
