SQC Tuning Turbo kit
I wanted to start this thread as Eric and I will be designing a turbo kit for the FR-S/BRZ.
I will share as many details as I can, and other design suggestions along the way. I would also like to note that both Eric and I work full time jobs so we most likely will not post during the day. Turbo & Hotside So far we have decided to utilize a mass produced journal bearing turbo, most likely a t3 derivative, or possible a precision unit. We are still debating on whether to forward mount and use a draw through system, or rear mount and have it be a blow through system (there are advantages to both). We will be making a turbo manifold either way, flanged for the turbo that we select. This will also feature an external wastegate, as we prefer the boost control on an external gate versus an internal gate. The system will utilize the factory exhaust starting in the midpipe. This completes the Hot side design thus far. Cold side Traditional front mount intercooler, unit to be determined. Aluminum piping most likely in a wrinkle finish. Blow off valve(if blow through) bypass vale(if draw through). T-bolt clamps, and silicon couplers. Plumbing We will be tapping the engine(specific location) for a gravity feed (read no scavage pump) and feed off the oil sending unit. Water cooling will be determine once turbo selected. Tuning We are going to be using EcuTek to reflash the stock ECU, along with larger port injectors to control AFR, and ignition mapping. Design goals: Make 260 to 300 dependable whp, using between 6-10 psi, keep the cost of the turbo kit below $5,000. Make it turn key so that you do not have anything else to purchase (read:tuning, hoses, fittings, fuel pump...) We appreciate any questions, or design suggestions... George and Eric Big thanks to John at Vtuned (Visconti) P.S. we will post what pictures we can, and update THIS post as the design direction is decided. Here is a link to past projects... http://www.sq-creations.com/sqcturbo.html P.P.S. HaHa To avoid misunderstanding... This will be the base kit, we will offer options to those wishing to have a different setup (wastegate options, turbo options, possibly a stand alone option also).

Saved for information update and images....
First planning session completed, disassembled the car, picked the turbo location, oil feed, and return, intercooler piping routing, and intercooler location. Went very well! Now the fun begins as we will be fabricating the parts HaHa!

I guess I'll be the only guy developing a turbo kit with Standalone?
Glad to see it's gonna be a party! The more the merrier. |

Due to the cost point we decided to go a different direction, however Eric is very capable with the AEM, and we could always offer it as an option... G |

sounds exciting!
I'm guessing you'll need around 10 psi just to hit 250whp which kind of scares me in the reliability department. can't wait to see the progress. |

We are designing the kit around a 4000 to 4500 RPM useable powerband. |
