This.
Just like your wipers and turn signals, you just stick a finger out to use it, keeping both hands wrapped around the wheel. Unless your thumb can stretch an extra 2 inches, i don't see how you would hit the buttons on the wheel without compromising grip. And i have long fingers.

am very pleased with where the cruise controls are on this car compared to others in household, when i'm driving my right hand rests on e-brake handle so slight shift to move it in desired direction.Admit to getting use to it having driven my Integra for almost 10 years before buying FRS so muscle memory had me reaching for buttons between steering wheel spokes that weren't there but have come to love stalk as i feel is placed in right spot.Guy i work with surmised that reason stalks and buttons are they are at on Japanese cars is since same wheel on RHD cars the driver would be using right hand to activate them while shifting with left.If true or not don't know but have been driving with just left hand on wheel for most of my life.other hand always ready to shift so simple to reach over to use whatever cruise was there.

Ummm you would never be shifting and activating cruise at the same time anyway.

True,I push button to before i start driving but once on long stretch of road on way to work reach over to set it once at about 111 k/m per hr.I get what you are saying about not doing both at same time but am sure there are people who will say that they have done it being they know everything about driving.

Lets talk shifting (the manual of course).

Has anyone else experienced this....

I need to downshift. Not sure what gear I'm in at the moment. I know there's an indication of that in the instrument cluster. I don't think to look. I look after I've pushed in the clutch pedal. Oh shit, now no indication of current gear in instrument cluster. Wish the notification of current gear were still visible...and why not ? I changed nothing with the gear lever so far, up to this point.

Get a loud ass exhaust and the tone will let you know what gear you are in

As much as you do you have that gear selected, i don't believe your car is truly in that gear until the clutch is let go. With the clutch pressed in, you are freely moving without any work of the gears.

I'll cop to this. I've become accustomed to the gear indicator and have made the same error resulting in that "aw, bummer" moment. Then I quickly check and confirm that I do still have a scrotum.

The car is already decked out with sensors. State switches in the transmission would add significant cost and introduce unnecessary failure points.

A calculated gear function is practically free so I appreciate the decision to give us that little extra luxury.

YIKES .......Ultramaroon ....... is ageing causing you to lose track of your automotive senses ..... ??

I'm surprised that you can't tell which gear you are in just by the since of car and engine speed. Maybe, upon occasion to reach down and touch the gear shift lever for confirmation.

Maybe you should be looking at a new Buick ......

Well, either my car doesn't have a gear indicator or it's not enabled.

I have enough trouble driving, without taking my old eyes off the road to "see" what gear I'm in ......

Yeah, it's disabled by default.

I don't think there is a sensor in the transmission. The displayed gear is calculated based on the motor rpm and car speed. If you press the clutch, the RPM doesn't match the gear anymore.
