I don't see the match either, but I definitely do not like the rear end, just like I do not like the rear end of the Supra for the same reasons.

The whole rear swoops up in complete contrast to the rest of the lines.

1968-1973 Corvette, tail flips up after sloping downward aft of rear wheel haunches, badass...
Infinitely better than 1974-1979 Corvette, tail continues sloping downward, looks kinda sad... For FT86, I don't even see it rising back up any, it just flattens out, much as the current-gen does. Difference is viewed from the rear the current gen is flatter, where the new one rises from the sides and peaks in the middle. |

These are not the same: The whole bulging out, pushed up look on the 86 (and the Supra) just doesn't work for me. It's like the taillights are "too tight" and making everything between them compressed.

The lights just ruin everything.
They're not BAD they're just....boring because of how generic they look. |

Of course they aren't! Context, I was responding to this:

But feel free to imaging the back of the BRZ continuing to slope downward instead of flattening out to form a sort-of spoiler. I don't think that'd work, *somewhat* similarly to how I don't think the '74-'79 Corvette tail works. |

Well, as I said, my issue isn't the "slope" as much as the entire "squeezed out" look of the rear trunk lid.

For the 2022 BRZ, I'd have preferred they make the trunk follow the lines of the car more, to provide a platform for different tail/spoiler options.

Borrowing someone else's pic, I scribbled some very basic lines on it to demonstrate. Where the Gen 1's curves tended to flow from front to back, the Gen 2's front creases don't really meet up with the back curves, resulted in a somewhat disjointed appearance I'm still liking it overall, but it's not quite as cohesive as before. |

Whereas the 2022 car's front fenders curves are gently faired back into the shape of the car just aft of the front edge of the front door. I find the new car's front fenders to be more elegantly shaped vs. current gen, and they definitely flow back further along the car's sides. |
