last laugh?
Not too long ago, there was a picture of a guy driving on the highway with his spoiler installed backwards. It was hilarious. BUT....i've been watching the indy 500 qualifications....and noted that the wing looked to be installed the same way, that is, it almost looks like it should be generating lift at the rear:
http://www.autoweek.com/storyimage/C...f-IndyCar1.jpg I'm sure it probably has to do with the direction of the airflow at the rear, but its not like the previous rear wings i've seen. Not sure the FR-S has the same aerodynamics of an indy car, but i wonder if he was basing it off of that.... |

It looks like it can be actuated on the fly, so maybe it depends on a set of variables.

came across this:
https://www.google.com/search?q=indy...52%3B507%3B338 looks like airflow is in a downward direction. so even if it was parallel with the ground, i think the wing would still generate downforce. don't know if it's this way in the FRS. Anyone see any pictures like this for the FRS? the smoke streams that illustrate airflow/aerodynamics? |

They have a fixed undertray(probably high speed oval specific) which will generate a certain rear biased downforce. If you cannot achieve aero balance with the front wings then you may need to generate positive lift with the rear wing to balance things out.

The difference is that those indy cars are routinely over 100+, and can easily reach speeds double that, so they need all the aero trickery they can get...this guy on the freeway ain't racing shit

Taking one of those indie cars on the streets would be almost as dumb as putting that backwards wing on your FRS.

FR-S = 170WHP
Indy Car = 650WHP

Here's a video that should help out: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EX8GgfAxIM"]2013 Scion FR-S | Aerodynamics Explained - YouTube[/ame]
Lmao, Indy cars, Formula 1, need all the aerodynamic mods they can come up with because rear-midengine open wheeled cars with insane power to weight ratios are hard to pin down in any situation. That guy put a spoiler on backwards because race car. |

The fact that you're comparing an FR-S with some garbage mounted on the deck lid to an Indy car is almost as laughable as an FR-S with some garbage mounted on the deck lid..
