Yes and it drops to 150 by redline. The 4C's engine has a shit powerband for a sports car. It's almost like that engine started its life in an economy car. |

Obviously you don't like it...To each his own. I was a passenger on track with and instructor driving. It was a blast! "Keep it on boil" is a term used widely in the 4C community. |

Oh it's fast, I'm not denying that! But as a sports car it falls into the trap of numbers/specs before driving experience. A Boxster S will be much more fun to drive, and if you ignore the stopwatch, to work lot of people the Miata and the 86 are more fun than both.

Evo magazine gave it 3.5/5 but I would still buy it on looks alone and try to somehow improve on the rest. But with no manual available, I don't think I would want to.

I love the car, but I think it would be a lot better with a N/A F20C making the same power than with the low-revving boosted powerplant it got... |

Look. The 4C is not for everyone. It's a small niche car. Obviously there is a small bunch of us crazy drivers that like the car. The Miata/FR-S/BRZ/86 makes more sense from a price/performance consideration. The Boxster (S)/Cayman is a better ALL AROUND car than the 4C.
Yes ... I miss the linear, high 7000-8000 revs of a NA engine. What I don't miss is the lack of torque at low rpms characteristic of small NA engines. I've been fortunate to have owned a couple of 911 turbos (996TT and 997TT) and most recently a 1st gen R8 V10. Great cars. Plenty of power. Un-usable power that is. Ownership of the FR-S reminded me of what a light weight, revvy engine could do. I couldn't stop laughing every time I was sliding around corners. For 3 yrs ... I never got a ticket in the FR-S even with all my shenanigans on the corners. One week into ownership of the R8 ..... accidently gave it too much gas entering a highway .... rear end swung out ..... cop gave me an Exhibition of Speed ticket. When I was younger .... I owned a Fiat X1/9. Yes ... it was a piece of shit, but my god was that car fun to drive. I cannot afford a newer Ferrari, so the next best thing was an Alfa Romeo 4C. Like I said previously ... it's a baby Scud. The 4C is far from perfect .... which is why I like it. You have to drive it to really understand how different it is from everything things else out there.

YES! Finally someone gets it. Saying 'keep it on boil' for an engine that chokes at it's high end (which isn't even at a high rpm) proves you don't understand the argument. The 4C would be a much better car with a K24 swap Quote:
Haven't yet been able to drive the Alfa, the boxster is an absolute gem though. For a mid engined car it is very predictable and forgiving at the limit. You can actually slide it without scaring the crap out of yourself. The 4C is not forgiving at the limit (going off reviews), which gets worse when coupled with an unpredictable torque curve, and is not available with a manual. It's faster, but it won't allow you to okay around at the limit. Most publications agree that as sports car, the boxster is better |

@Pure Automotive is working on that... Besides that, the FA20 is actually a really nice engine. While not that powerful, it's properly high-strung and the torque curve is dead-flat from ~4750-7250rpm |

I love the comments here - a lot of arm-chair comments about what it's like to drive the 4C, from people who have never driven one. Motor doesn't have to rev super high to be fun, sounds like a bunch of honda-heads. This one is fun because of the turbo, blow off sounds, overrun sounds, and the big torque curve that makes it much faster than 237hp would lead you to believe. Comparing to a Boxster - the Boxster is about precision and technical perfection. 4C is something different - certainly holds its own on a track, but the experience could not be more different than a Boxster (in a very good way). And what's wrong with using a shared powerplant? You could say a Lotus Evora 410 has the same powerplant as my Toyota Highlander, but it ain't the same!
Enjoy your 4C, I'd love to have one and kudos to Alfa for having the cajones to build it. |

I agree. But, we don't all like the same things. This car is all it was supposed to be IMHO. This is how I see it below... People complain there aren't enough sports cars being built and when the odd one comes along they complain about "Fill in the blank" |
