It's impossible to lead by consensus. If you can get a majority buy-in, that's a win. The real lesson is in not taking the disapproval of subordinates personally. Remember that a happy sailor is a bitching sailor. In the end, you get respect when it's clear that your decision isn't swayed by popularity.

if that's the case my warehouse/driver guy is the happiest person on Earth. all he does is bitch and complain about ever little thing. he's also the type of guy that will do the opposite of whatever you tell him to do. then when you ask him why he'll just mumble, "but I just....". of course then he bitches that you're pissed at him. so now I just tell him the opposite of what I actually want him to do. works like a charm.

My glasses are so old... They were my dads in high school. I got my prescription put in them, but the frames are almost done. They have a few small cracks. I'd like to retire them before they totally break.

Pretty standard hub and spoke processing, not really cheaping out, but making sure shipping is affordable. Pretty much the model any logistics company uses (airline, air, sea, truck shipping, etc).

FedEx, for example, started off with everything going through Memphis, TN every night. That's still where their superhub is. Good video that explains it.

I'm going to arrange for the shop in Santa Clara to do it when I visit mom in the spring. They still have some fixing to do from when they replaced the door skin, and put the wrong emblem on the front.

Airlines do it too and I hate it. I know it's cheaper but getting stuck in Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta.. is the worst. I would rather be stuck at home or on vacation rather than somewhere in between.
