Sounds like they got rid of the torque dip according to the Subie test driver

New motor? That surprises me in light of the doom and gloom covid era we live in. My guess is they took a parts bin approach to it which would be fine. Looks like it makes e85 power but more refined and obviously on pump. I just wanna hear "better than mazda" a few more times lol

It does seem odd that the images would be off. Another indication that the 7500 figure may be correct lies in the table I just read at the bottom of the presser, which shows maximum hp at 7000 rpm. Putting max hp at the redline is only done in racing engines as far as I'm aware, as it gives you an engine that is too prone to being over-revved for safe street use.

ALL-NEW 2022 SUBARU BRZ MAKES GLOBAL DEBUT

Like everyone, I do prefer the looks of my 2017, however the new car is growing on me by the minute.

Interior design is very Toyota-esque, and I think I prefer the design of the 2017+ dash. But, the new interior definitely looks more “upscale” in materials choices; plus those seats look awesome.

From a technical perspective however, looks very promising! A good solid bump in power and torque (!!!) from the 2.4L, while maintaining the same rev limit is sweet. I won’t blather on further, but here’s two things I’ll point out that I’ve noticed and haven’t seen called out specifically:

No more dip!

Also, a factory liquid oil cooler/warmer, similar to the WRX setup:

Yeah, good point. Might have been a mistake in writing 7k RPM redline from the 7k RPM peak power.

Exterior wise, the car needed a refreshment, especially from the Subaru side which didn't really improve anything for the last 7 years. I like the side skirts, new front bumper. I don't know how to feel about the rear lights/bumper. But it's nice to see that little duckbill wing. Interior wise, its a toyota/subaru interior, honestly, I wouldn't expect anything less or better. Should've asked Mazda for some pointers. For a vehicle that costs around 30K, a bigger engine, better center of gravity,lower/stiffer chasis, refreshed looks, NO SOUND TUBE, factory oil cooler, 6-speed manual, and highly customizable exterior and interior, I honestly couldn't have asked for anything more. Time to see how it survives the test drives.

Its possible the increase in power just hides it better.
edit: n/m just saw a preivous post. looks to have been reduced significantly but still there.

I would always go with the Subaru released test over pictures.
In my experience engines tend to have a gap between peak HP and redline... but it is possible. It will be interesting to see which is correct.

Although the engine itself is not "new" the addition of the Toyota fuel system to give it port and direct injection is unique to this car making it a bespoke combination.
Still haven't seen anything on what platform they used but the increased stiffness would lead in the direction of the new global one. This will allow for quite a few parts bins adaptions.

EDIT- Missed this before "Featuring a bespoke chassis" So not likely the Global Platform!

Watching the videos it seems Subaru/Toyota`s brief was exceptionally clear. Make it faster 0-60 than the MX5 (6.7s?) and only use a turbo if you can't beat that 0-60 because otherwise you step on the Surpa's toes.

So I suspect the 0-60 is around 6.5s.

I think based on another photo above, with the power/torque curves on the dash, you can see them going to about 7400/7500 RPM. Certainly not official (by Tcoat's bible ), but likely.
