NEW Ohlins R&T Dedicated DFV Kit

Hey everyone,

My name is Chris, I have a 2016 BRZ and Ohlins just used my car to develop their new Dedicated Road and Track DFV Coilovers. All the negative feedback about their previous setups, in my opinion, have been addressed and is now worth every penny. They developed the kit using their shake rig in North Carolina. It's still in development and wont be available for another 1-2 months, but these "Dedicated” kits are for more track-focused cars than the R&T kits, but can still be driven on the street without discomfort. The kit includes spherical upper mounts with front camber adjustability, as well as higher spring rates.

My current setup is APEX 17x9 Wheels with 255 RS4's all around and SPL Rear Control Arms. I drove 8 hours home from NC, been daily driving this setup for a month, taking spirited drives through fun VA back roads numerous times a week and absolutely love these bad boys. I haven't taken them on the track yet, but I should be at VIR and Summit Point in about a month. When you support the race industry, you don't get a lot of track time in.

Anyways, let me know any/all questions and I'll do my best to answer them or get them for you!

Differences:

- Road & Track: 50 N/mm springs front and rear. Used factory mounts.

- Dedicated: 90 N/mm springs. Specific shock valving. Included spherical upper mounts.

- Dual Flow Valve:

Since the dedicated kit is for more track oriented cars, has it actually been track tested and validated?

Hmm, original retail kits of R&T are also DFV.

From initial post i'm not exactly getting with full certainty, if this is custom one-off BTO kit, or near future second retail kit targeting more hardcore track use (and grippier tires) vs soft R&T Mk.2. If custom BTO, then i guess this japanese R&T BTO kit seems rather similar to it rates wise.

The Dedicated kit utilizes 90 N/mm springs front and rear (and application valving) for more balanced handling versions the Japanese 9kg/7kg setup. Their shake rig work and further calculations suggested the Dedicated setup would be ideal for a majority of the market who are attending a lot of track events with wider, track-oriented tires.

Ohlins assures me that the kit will be validated on the track before it goes on the market. They do not release a kit to the market without track testing. This includes the BMW and Porsches we are currently testing for the Dedicated program.

Will these be more expensive? Considering the additional top mounts

I'm certain that these will cost more. Even original R&T kit with ohlins own camberplates included was more expensive. If they also have to recoup R&D costs, and very probably numbers sold for dedicated track kit will be lower then street-ish R&T Mk.2 .. All that into account they are certain to be more expensive, with minimum cost as original R&T kit was.
That aside, it's high quality product with advanced valving that most probably is certain to deliver what it costs (for specific use/tire setup of course, as others are better off with R&T Mk.2 with 50N/mm springs). Many of original R&T owners spoke well of original kit, it's imho too soft Mk.2 that was let down in my eyes as was changed not in way majority of potential customers may have wanted, but that is more of wrong market targeting then any problem with quality of product.

I’m very excited about this new development, not so excited to hear about the final price. Increasing the price beyond the current R&T level pushes these into a market that’s currently occupied by very capable two way adjustable coilovers.

@BizzMan

What is the ride height change from stock of the new version you are testing?

Hey everyone! Sorry about the holdup, but it looks like the target price for the entire package will be around $3200. The rear utilizes a spherical upper mount and the ride height is identical to the R&T spec at 20-25mm.

After continuing to daily my car I really can't say enough good things about the ride quality. However, I did recently do some city driving in Baltimore, Maryland and DC.. Needless to say I was bouncing all over the place.

Are ohlins valving specs secret to dealers?
I already have a set of RT MK2 and would like them revalved to be more aggressive.

Springs as well.

The DFV equipped Road & Track coilovers can respond very well to increased spring rates (with the appropriate valving and complimentary upgrades, of course).

This sounds like the perfect kit for a track focused vehicle. We're excited to test it here at Sonoma Raceway once it's available!

For those interested, we actually offer a few re-valved R&T coilover packages (SPORT, TRACK, and "The WORKS") that include our camber plates and increased spring rates (or custom rates with Swift springs).

BizzMan, Will this kit feature upgraded rear mounts as well?

You can reach out to a local dealer or contact Brian directly at Ohlins. Servicing dealers will eventually have access to the spec cards to convert R&T kits to the Dedicated spec once the package has been validated and is on the market. They will also have access to the new preload and specifications unique to the new, Dedicated specification.

If you're looking to do this before the end of the year, reaching out to Brian directly is your best bet.

Has Ohlins released this kit to market yet, or will it be a BTO type deal?
I'd be very curious to see shock dyno's if possible.
