I really hope you replaced the OS drive with a cheap small SSD.
And replaced the data drives with new ones.

Or at least checked their health.

I really enjoyed LA NOIRE, always wished there was a follow-up game. Thought about picking up the VR version, but it looks like it's really just 7 of the cases pulled out of the main game, and not new content.

There have been rumors and leaks here and there. Rockstar is known for keeping things secret fairly well, except for the remaster of GTA series that was known months before their official release.

If we are talking about a complete remake, I don't know how I feel about it after the disaster of the GTA Trilogy. If anything, they'll remaster yet again, GTA 5.

Honestly, I don't usually play remakes. With most games, I'm one and done. there are very few I've replayed even once. Unless it's a new game, new content, I probably wouldn't play it.

The only thing that I could possibly benefit from is finding a good deal on a new PSU. I'm thinking something in the range of 800-1000W fully modular, but I don't really need it. Better storage? No, I got a very good deal a few months ago on a 980 Pro 2TB with a little price matching.

The day that I see a 5900 AMD CPU with $150 discount, it'll be time to upgrade.
I've seen a few notable deals I don't need, which are good deals none the less; Storage, power supplies on that list. A couple decent motherboards, and for anyone not yet on zen3 the deals are still the best we've seen. But I got exactly nothing. Vaguely considering snagging another 1tb m2 for a tiny bit of safety trying win11 (I expect it'll be marching orders soon enough) but... so many other things I'm having to pay for right now.

yeah, never had one screw up like this. my gaming pc is around the same age, and it's comfortably running win10--i'm re-using the same windows install usb drive, and product key...

every time, it goes through the entire install process like normal, automatically reboots as it's supposed to. after reboot, it can't find the boot disc, and starts looking for alternatives in the cd drive or nvidia boot manager(i believe part of my LAN card).

this board was from the era when x86 systems were more common. iirc, i only ever ran 32bit win7 on it, i'm thinking the now-commonplace 64bit software is screwing things up.

I know we say "No politics", but I found this interesting and that it relates to the gaming world. Apparently elected officials are re-introducing legislation that will stop "BOTS". or "Grinch Bots" as they are referred to in the legislation. Under the pretenses that no parent, or American should have to shed hundreds of dollars over MSRP to buy gifts and what not. With the current supply chain situation, the legislation is expected to receive wide support.

I guess that's good news. But until I see it, and be able to grab a 3080 for MSRP, I'll believe it.

Yea, that could be the problem I suppose.

counterpoint: the elected officials are introducing legislation to more significantly fine those caught.

one can't stop what one doesn't see.

it's like crime anywhere. if it was so easy to just legislate it out of existence, we would've by now.

There's nothing worse than joining a lobby with players that just decide to camp, and even worse, when they all jump to the same location, but don't use microphones. Out of 10 games, I get maybe 2 with players that are committed to win the game. Then you have the ones that are watching TV at an insane volume level, or listening to music, or talking on the phone.

When the current GPU landscape is so dire that manufacturers decide to re-release old, but improved models for gamers. NVIDIA has confirmed the release of a 2060 12GB GPU coming soon. Game drivers have released. It is close in performance with the 1660 Super and 3060. While the main gain for gamers is that is supposed to be less desirable for miners since the hash rate is very low. So the news should be taken with a grain of salt. You won't be able to get a current gen, but at least you may possible get an older model with improved hardware to hold of until the situation gets better.

Even current gen is fast approaching previous gen. I'm so glad I lucked out and nabbed one right before tariffs hit and then price bumps on top of that. Actual MSRP purchase! $8xx for a 6800xt (plus tax... sigh.) So paranoid it'll just quit on me, so I'm running it on default settings, no OC, not even "rage mode".

Cool. I just gave my wife my graphics card (GTX1080) for her birthday, because hers was so old she couldn't play any new games with it. This might be a good actual upgrade for her if it's something we can actually buy for a reasonable price. She wants an RTX series.

I should probably build a new PC sometime soon anyway...
