I find it highly unlikely that a street class twin will beat a street class CTR off the line (60ft) in the dry.
The “launch control” isn’t high enough RPM stock and causes the CTRs to bog off the line. All the owners bitch about it. It’s also FWD. there’s no reason a RWD car shouldn’t have a better 60’ than a FWD unless I’m missing something.

wow, not a single type R showed up to pro solo nats in 21 or 19.

But 2019 and 21 results agree with you, SSC cars putting in 2.3-2.4 60 ft. times and GS Civic Si are matching that, type R should be able to put enough power down by 60ft to over come the physics of the launch.

https://www.scca.com/pages/2018-tire...-1571080139-62

New car should probably fare better, but not world of difference better, CS Miata in the 2.2 range, would be curious to see type R 60 ft just for fun but I'm not scrolling through a half dozen events to find it.

Tire choice makes a huge difference. The Yokes have crazy launch grip vs the Fakens the SSC cars run. So I think that would play a huge factor in which wins the 60’.

He's pretty much fallen off the face of the earth. Engine isn't replaced yet but he has it, I've offered to help or have him codrive a few times

Stx cars getting down to 2.2 the same event SSC cars are getting 2.3 with the extra ~20hp and 245 yokes, both '19 and '21, about a tenth quicker across the board. So if less then a tenth is huge then I guess.

This is kind of the first time I've bothered looking at 60ft times so

It makes the most sense to class them in CS & STR. I just wonder if the SCCA doesn’t want to do that because Mazda is one of their biggest sponsors.

But it would make for an awesome battle against Mazda & Toyota.

Different class/different car but in GS Mike Yanase and I 60’ were 0.037 apart combined left and right for our bests all in the low 2.3’s. Him on Yokes and me on 660’s. The falkens really don’t launch that poorly.

Ran against a couple of cars of STX Twins on Falkens this year at pros. Their 60 times were slower than some Yok cars and faster than others. It is a couple hundredths at most.

Very interesting information from all of you. I was highly disappointed at my 60ft times at the Packwood pro-solo last year. Getting 2.4's (IIRC). Because with my experience drag racing mostly stock cars years ago, those times are junk considering a RWD platform. I could routinely get 2.3 60ft times in a stock '00 Ford Escort ZX2 with the crappy factory Goodyear all seasons.

Seems it's probably safe to say that the twins aren't going to get off the line in a Pro better then the CTR. Probably more driver dependent than anything.

The Mazda will still have a size, weight, and suspension advantage in both classes, imho the 86 is the underdog in that scenario but can sneak a win on a power course that doesn't punish the bigger car.

CS is logical, I can see waiting on str until a 2.4 with headers gets some Dyno time and event results to see if it gets significantly better then expected (I doubt it but the trepidation makes sense).

I still think DS & STR.

Street class is definitely a wash but I think the twin is going to struggle more in CS than in DS

The 1g hasn't been competitve in DS since 2018, then with Leeder destroying DS pax in 2019, it only got worse. I feel its a good spot to start.
