@cwik: How many miles did you take in your car for the first oil change? I've been wondering. Is it 3000 or 7500 miles?
Sorry, wasn't signing for a while and missed your question. I took it in at 3000 miles.

Heh, that's funny... my finance manager always glazes over the pre-paid maintenance offering. I wonder why... you'd think it would be a sure-fire way to ensure that we would retain a customer as a service customer so that they don't have their car serviced elsewhere. Even if you lose a little money over the customer paying visit-to-visit, some money is better than none if they have it done elsewhere. I used to recommend this to everyone when I worked at Audi - it was $800 vs. ~$1200 if you paid out-of-pocket for the first 4 intervals, assuming the cost of labor and materials didn't go up. I can only assume it's the same for Subaru.

If you do the maintenance yourself, that's the cheapest way of course! That's what I plan on doing - this car should be a BReeZ to work on

I thought 2 year maintenance is included? Oil change every 3,750 miles. Or is that a Southern California only thing?

Probably different regions have different promotions. The one my BRZ fell under was 2 years @ 7500 mile intervals and it was a promotion for the Texas/Oklahoma area.

I got it but after I didn't think it was worth it to spend $2k on it for 3 years worth of oil changes so I cancelled it.

$2k? That seems steep. I wouldn't have gone for it, either.

Given that the actual intervals according to the owner's manual are 7500 miles or 7.5 months, you would have been paying 2k for 5 oil changes or about $400 per visit. The only actual thing other than an oil change and checking various fluids in 3 years is probably the air filter and cabin air filter.

So, I'm getting my 22,500 maintenance done at the dealership and I'm curious if I should ask them about getting the extended maintenance with them. Did anyone have experience with extending your maintenance plan through the dealership?

How much money would I save as opposed to paying another shop to do my maintenance?

EDIT: Just did the math and it comes out to $4,600 to cover the maintenance up to 120,000 miles.

6 minor services: $540
2 intermediate: $460
2 major A: $1,320
2 major B: $1,400
Special Service: $880.

Yes my dealer told me only car purchased in SoCal qualified ( or all CA? Forgot the detail, he was just trying to tell me not to buy a car from out of state dealer and this what subaru did to retain buyers in CA)

These types of service plans for this vehicle probably don't make much sense when everything is likely to be changed.

Example: 15K
Replace engine oil
Replace engine oil filter
Inspect disc brake pads and discs, front and rear axle boots and axle shaft joint portions
Perform inspect brake lines and check operation of parking and service brake system
Inspect clutch operation
Inspect steering and suspension
Perform rotate and inspect tires
Replace a/c filter

Not much there that most people haven't modded out or taken care of. I guess the a/c filter is useful if you still have ac

2 years is included from Subaru and can be used nation-wide. For many of my customers (especially leases), we'll include or sell 1-3 more years of pre-paid service that can only be done at my store.

In short, everyone gets 2 years from Subaru, some get more from us.
