Given the price of the BRZ, the next WRX/ STi will very likely approach $30/40k and a LOT of car can be had for that money...

The new WRX will not be based off the impreza. They stated that many times.

Before they unveiled the concept at the NYAS, the test mule in the wild looked just like this basically. I wouldn't really go off of this.

Then again, it wouldn't surprise me to see similarities in the production version.

Damnit, I hate speculating.

It wouldn't be based off Impreza, but it still uses the same chassis. I understand what you mean because side profile and trunk shape look like carbon copy if current Impreza. At least they try to make more "mature" handsome headlight and tailight with WRX/STI goodies such as wide front fender, and more aggressive nose.

Look through the pictures, Subaru could be testing the new STI against 911 Carrera.

Lol @ Subaru.

This is the real prototype, people. Why would anyone put a Subaru logo and an STI badge on the grill if this was just a mule?

Uh what? Not based off of but still uses the same chassis??? That means they literally use the same "base" which the verb of is "based"

Unless you can think of a more basic element of the car than it's chassis?

Would it really be a bad thing if this was close to production? Getting the concept will demand a much higher starting price. And I don't think people will be willing to pay STI money for a WRX.

It wouldn't be a bad thing, but it also wouldn't be a step forward in the right direction. The WRX DNA has been held back by the impreza market for a long time, and it would be high time that it removed itself from that fact. Just as the Nissan GT-R removed itself from the Family Sedan Skyline platform.

People will pay what needs to be paid, and all things considering the current WRX and STI are very cheap for the performance they are offering. I believe a 30k more focused WRX is still very cheap, very promising, and very desireable car over its current Impreza based self.

Designwise. Previous gen WRX STIs are technically Impreza body with more fender flare and goodies. This one is a bit different. If the rumor is correct, it gets its own interior instead of Impreza econobox interior.

I guess 30k wouldn't be too bad as long as the WRX/STI stay in that 30-40k. The price is what makes this car cool to me because it can troll cars that are much more expensive. I would hate to see this car go the GTR route and see the price jump each year. That car came out at 70k and the other day I saw a 2012 for 108k.

That A-pillar really bothers me for some reason. The whole area just looks odd with the A-pillar, mirror, and hood line. Hmmm. Interested in the wheels though, hopefully the stocks will look good and I can pick a pair up for cheap.

ah it's just like when the Twins' mule was running around, people all saying it looks horrible yadda yadda.

well, that the point of the camo- its can't hind the shape of the car, but it can hide the lines. that what they're doing here. I'm sure when we the actual images come out people's minds will change.

also, we haven't seen the profile view or rear view.

so try not to jump to conclusions.

I'm personally waiting to see if there will be a wagon version and what it will look like.
